The location is so peaceful and we felt really at ease during our stay. We left with so many good ideas for future home exchanges....you really are pros at this.

There were great walks around and about, especially alongside the canal itself. The 30 minute trip inside was very informative and the locals were very friendly and helpful. Such a shame about the delapitated old mills, hopefully they will be converted into something worthy of Marsden itself. We found the house very relaxing and listening to the silver band practicing on a Wednesday evening was another treat!!! Thank you so much for this exchange, we loved it.

Roger and Sheila's home is stunning and a lovely place to spend time and they left provided us with some great tips for things to do locally. We enjoyed being close to the canal and walks long it. Marsden was full of interesting industrial heritage. The train station takes you straight into Manchester really easily. Your projector inspired us to get own own!

Read More...Thank you Roger and Sheila for a wonderful exchange! Your home is warm and welcoming and ideally situated, with a lovely canal walk right from the bottom of the garden while five minutes' walk from the front door takes you into the centre of the attractive town of Marsden. Further afield, and still without any need for getting into the car (ours stayed put for the entire six days) there are myriad walking opportunities in all directions, far more than we could have ever explored. Hope we can do a repeat some time!

We were warmly welcomed by Sheila and Roger, shared a meal and gave us the grand tour of the house. They also made us a tasty meat pie; left ample food in the fridge, and local beers. The weather... well, the weather was discribed by the neighbours as typical Marsden weather: Sunshine, warm, windy and rainy, all in the same day. Lots of things to do and see in the neighbourhood. Great walks. It was a treat to sit in the garden, watching the narrow boats in the lock, watching the hikers. Pippa, our sausage dog, also adored the great garden and the squirrels. Sheila and Roger left us plenty tourist brochures. When we returned home, our house was well looked after and the neighbour spoke highly of Sheila and Roger. We would definitely recommend these exchange partners and loved Marsden

Read More...We had a tremendous time in Marsden village in SW Yorkshire. What wonderful exchange partners we had who demonstrated generosity and a warm welcome to a stylish, comfortable house. We felt at home straightaway even a bit lost in the huge showers! What a treat! We enjoyed: meeting our family and friends who live in the North West, walking in and around Marsden; watching -birds, narrow boats, the landscape, people, the ducks; relaxing in a beautiful home; sitting in the conservatory; admiring the many radios; eating too many Yorkshire pies and listing all the things still to do.....we were just so busy unwinding that we didn't have time to explore further afield, walk the Colne Valley Loop, Pule Hill or take the train to Leeds, York or Manchester. Your home and its location created a perfect Easter exchange. Thank you for exchanging with us.

A comfortable roomy home with large garden and access to canal side path. It offers comfortable accommodation for 7 in 4 bedrooms, two double, a twin room and a single bedroom there is also a folding cot and single bed if additional space is needed.. The main bedroom has an en-suite shower and dressing room and in addition there is a further shower room as well as a full bathroom.
There is a large and well equipped kitchen/dining room with a breakfast bar and large dining table, plenty of room for relaxed cooking and eating. The lounge and conservatory with access to raised patio overlook the rear garden. The lounge is a great place for watching the boat traffic on the canal and enjoying the view of the hills. The garden has a large lawn, a picnic table and barbecue and we also have a selection of garden toys for young children. For evenings or bad weather we have good selection of DVDs and access to SKY television, including children's channels and movies as well as some toys.

The village of Marsden is at the head of the Colne Valley and developed as a mill town in the days of the industrial revolution. Historic routes across the Pennines passed through Marsden including a Roman road, packhorse trails, early coach roads the Huddersfield Narrow Canal and then the railways. The canal has been restored as a tourist route for holiday boats and trips can be taken into the 3 mile tunnel under the hills. The surrounding hills offer a great variety of walking footpaths and the canal path is a level and easy way to walk to nearby villages. The village itself has a good range of shops as well as cafes, restaurants and pubs. The local town of Huddersfield is a good shopping centre and a large new leisure centre with fun pool etc. and easy to reach by car, train or bus. There is an hourly train service to Manchester, Leeds, then to York, Liverpool and further, London can be reached in just over three hours. We have a large selection of local and regional guide books.

Marsden is well situated allowing easy public transport or road access to many tourist and historic attractions. Manchester has world standard art galleries and museums as well as cultural events and Liverpool is worth a visit with its Maritime museum, the Beatles museum and the ferry over the Mersey. Driving to the north takes you to the beautify Yorkshire Dales scenery while going south to Derbyshire brings more wonderful hill scenery as well as outstanding stately homes to visit, both areas being an easy days drive away.
The city of York with its cathedral, castle and many other attractions is easy to reach and is one of the most visited tourist destinations in England.
