Newcastle is the cultural centre for the region with Theatres, Art Galleries, Cinemas and Museums. There is also a vibrant nightlife with pubs and restaurants along the quayside. We live in an archaeological significant area. Hadrian’s Wall is very close. We live on the Stanegate, the route of a Roman road. There are forts and visitor centres for Hadrian’s Wall at Housesteads, the Sill, Corbridge and other places.

Northumberland National Park is close by, offering wilderness, walking and Kielder Reservoir. The Northumberland Coast with numerous castles and Holy Island are within 1 hour’s drive.

The city of Durham is less than an hour away with its famous Norman Cathedral, castle and setting.

Newcastle Airport is 30 minutes away. Hexham has a train station.

The beautiful Lake District is only 90 minutes away and is famous for its large lakes in a mountainous setting.

We regularly travel further afield by train. Edinburgh is 1 hour north of Newcastle (and 2 hours by car). London is 3 hours south of Newcastle by train.

We have four bikes (mountain and trail bikes) that you are welcome to use.

We also have a canoe and all equipment that you could also use. The canoe would need to be transported on top of a car and is suitable for flat water.
