The Monte Rosa guesthouse is situated at 2 km from the village of Barão de São João. This old authentic Portuguese village is made up of small houses, a couple of local grocery shops with organic products available, friendly cafes and small restaurants. The interesting old town of Lagos is 9 km away. It has beautiful beaches, pleasant markets and plenty of historical places of interest such as an old slave market and ancient walls that were built in the 16th century. Lagos has many shops and lots of typical Portuguese restaurants and cafees to choose from. .
Along the south coast you will find beautiful fishing villages like Burgau and Salema. You also may want o visit Sagres (30 km)with its impressive rock formations. This is the most south westerly point of Europe. The old town of Silves with its Moorish architecture is also worthwhile a visit. The west coast is only a half hour drive away and is a splendid area for hiking and surfing, with its impressing rocky beaches.
