We are both retired. Johan has worked part-time as a lecturer at a university and as an engineering consultant and Ans as a social worker. In the summer we live in Friesland and in the winter in the Rotterdam area.
We love good food and we can both cook well. We enjoy swimming, cycling, spinning and walking. We regularly make bicycle tours of 40 to 65 km in the area and often combine that with sailing through the Netherlands
Our children but especially the 8 grandchildren between the ages of 1.5 and 8 years are happy with us. (my nickname is grandfather pancake) The house and garden are therefore designed for children. Behind the house is water where you can swim, fish and sail. There are enough life jackets in all sizes and there is a fence along the water. At the house are a children's sailboat type optimist and a small sailing sail of 3.5 m. In the vicinity are various boat rental companies of open sloops and family sailboats of approx. 6 m. In the garden there is a swing, a transport pallet as a treehouse at 2 m height and a stair go-kart. A Weber gas barbecue is located on the terrace

A villa located in a water sports and cycling area in the north of the Netherlands. A good place for families who enjoy water sports and cycling.
On the ground floor there is the living room and kitchen and bedroom with a double bed and a private bathroom with shower.
To the floor is an open staircase. (So be careful with small children if they are not used to open stairs). Upstairs are 2 bedrooms with 2 single beds and 1 bedroom with a double bed. A total of 8 permanent beds. Upstairs is a bathroom with shower and bathtub. There is also a children's bed.
The garden is south facing and on the water. Along the water is a lockable gate. There is a swim ladder and there are facilities for children in the garden.

Ympäristön kuvailu
Woudsend is a small village in the province of Friesland with 1600 inhabitants. There is a wood saw windmill and a commercially used grain windmill. The province is mainly agricultural and is located in the north of the Netherlands. The village is on the edge of a large water sports area. (the house is on swimming, fishing and waterways). The most important farms in the village are yacht yards and water sports and outside the village the dairy farms.
South-west of the village lies an area with many cycle paths in a landscape where forests are interspersed with grassland. Here are also some touristically interesting villages such as Hindelopen and Workum.
The house is in a neighborhood with houses that are partly permanently inhabited and that are partly used as a holiday home. In the village there is a small supermarket and in the larger village "Balk" there are more shops. Balk is about 1 hour by boat and about 8 km by road.
The larger towns of Amsterdam, Utrecht and Groningen are each around 80 minutes by car.

Woudsend is primarily a water sports village. Rent a sloop and go exploring in the area. Balk is a great place to do your shopping (you can moor in front of the supermarket) and is less than 1 hour away. Langweer, Sneek and Workum are a 1.5-hour boat ride away. The village of Woudsend has experienced a poor period without renewal, so that the old structure of small streets and alleys has been preserved.
In our village there is a sawmill that is kept in operation by volunteers during the weekends.
A 2nd windmill is used to make organic flour for sale.
Nearby are picturesque villages such as Hindelopen or Workum where the old center has been preserved. In Heerenveen is the "Oranjewoud" museum in a park-like setting.
The Frisian museum in Leeuwarden and the museum in Groningen have changing exhibitions with accessible modern art. The buildings in Heerenveen and Groningen in particular are architecturally successful.
