The Okanagan Valley is known for its wineries (tours available) and excellent climate for fruit-growing in addition to grapes including cherries (June), peaches (July), and apples (August). The valley's warm dry weather makes it popular with golfers who have choice of over thirty golf courses, and over one-hundred kilometres (sixty-two miles) of beautiful lakes make this region BC's summer playground.
There is a growing arts and cultural community that includes great local dinner theatre (Actor's Studio), outdoor festivals, concerts, local symphony, small art galleries, and an arts centre. Experience an outdoor movie in the summer on the biggest drive-in movie screen in North America at the Starlight Theatre (50 min away) or a unique outdoor summer or winter theatrical production at Caravan Farm Theatre (1 hr drive). There are lots of free activities to do around Kelowna—pick up a brochure and take a self-guided tour of public artworks downtown, take a picnic to a beach or neighborhood park, walk the Mission Creek trail or Myra Canyon tressles.
In the winter, Kelowna is a popular destination for skiers. We have two world-class ski hills within an hour’s drive.
The city of Vancouver is a five hour drive over the Coquihalla Highway and Vancouver Island, voted one of the most beautiful places in the world, is a short 1.5 hour ferry ride beyond that. There are direct flights also between Kelowna and Vancouver/Victoria if you prefer not to drive and Kelowna has an international airport with direct flights to the US, Mexico and other cities in Canada.

A bit further afield (not day trips* but great weekend get-aways):
- 5 hour drive to Vancouver, BC.
- 5 1/2 hour to city of Seattle, Washington.
- 6-7 hours to world-famous Banff & Lake Louise in the Canadian Rockies.

(*That said, we have driven to Vancouver & back in a day to fetch someone from the airport, pick up something at IKEA, or catch a Whitecaps soccer game! But to really explore these great cities I would plan a weekend!)
