Our house is located in a very quiet area in Herzogenrath on the city limits of Aachen (in English Aix-la-Chapelle), a city with 250,000 inhabitants and the largest technical university in Germany with 45,000 students. From our house it is only 7 km to the centre. Aachen is a historically important city. The oldest parts of the cathedral are 1200 years old and more than 30 kings were elected here in the Middle Ages. Aachen also has a thermal spring with swimming pool and sauna.

From Aachen many interesting cities in Central Europe can be reached very well.

- Paris in 3 hours with the Thalis train
- London in 4.5 hours with the ICE train through the Channel Tunnel
- Amsterdam by car in 2.5 hours
- Cologne and Düsseldorf by car in 1 hour
- Bruxelles in 2 hours by car

For flights within Europe, the airports in Düsseldorf, Cologne and Brussels can be reached within one hour. For international flights, Frankfurt is best suited and can be reached by the fast ICE train in 1.5 hours.
