  • Wow, wow wow 5 star and beyond - incredible

Alan & Sheila have a beautiful, unique well equipped house and clearly put in lots of time and effort to ensure we had a spectacular stay. They had thought of everything from start to finish - we were very impressed with the house and the surrounding area. We were blown away by the incredible views, the trees, hills, mountains and garden. We also loved to watch the range of birds that had clearly made the garden their home. We also met the lovely Sheila & Alan at 'Tebay Service Station' and enjoyed a 'good old natter'. They are a lovely, generous couple who shared their beautiful home with us and we were so glad they did. Many, many thanks. Sheila &Tom

  • Great exchange with the best hosts ever

The exchange with Sheila and Alan was one of our best experiences. Contact with them was always smooth, with lots of information passed on to help us organise our holiday. This made us very keen to meet them, and we are glad that we could spend an evening with them before we left to Scotland and after they returned from France. They are charming, funny, cultured people who have travelled a great deal which fuelled our conversations. Sheila and Alan did everything possible to ensure that we could make the most of our stay in the Scottish Borders. Their house is a haven of serenity, and a reflection of who they are. It is very comfortable, extremely clean and well maintained, finely decorated and relaxed at the same time. We felt at home immediately and loved the conservatory that provided us with great views over their beautiful garden and the surrounding hills. As for Innerleithen and the Borders, what a wonderful place to stay! The region is very green, peaceful and full of opportunities for sightseeing and the outdoors. They are many amazing walks, all very well explained by our hosts, and Innerleithen is also the best place for cycling, fishing and golf! We were given excellent recommendations of all sorts including eateries, shopping, visits, etc. which saved us a lot of time. Everything was easy and accessible by foot, by car or by bus. We did a day trip to Edinburg by bus (1:30h). With so many things to do, our 10 day-exchange went by in the blink of an eye and left us some wonderful memories. We are very grateful to Sheila and Alan for making it possible and for their unparalleled generosity.

  • Ideal for exploring the Scottish borders.

  • Stunning comfortable home, a pleasure to stay

Thank you both so much for your hospitality and HAPPY NEW YEAR! We had an excellent stay in this modern very comfortable and extremely beautiful home. We used Innerleithen as a base to explore ‘The Borders’ and the town itself has some treasures we enjoyed visiting. Especially Traquair house (claims to be the oldest continually inhabited house in Scotland), and Robert Smail's Printing Works, (NT). Easy driving distance to other small towns of interest to us with ancient churches, Abbeys, houses, gardens and riverside walking. Thank you so much for a wonderful exchange and a new area for us to explore! All the very best to you both for 2024 Diane and Geoffrey

  • We had a wonderful time staying in Shiela and Alan's beautiful home. The house was so comfortable and the highlight for us was being able to sit in their conservatory and enjoy the view, it made for a very relaxing week. However there was so much to do in the area, we were spoilt for choice. We did a couple of long walks, visited two historic houses, rented mountain bikes in one of the local forests and also took the bus to Edinburgh. It was also great to have the opportunity to meet up with Shiela and Alan on the day of exchange and enjoy a cup of coffee together. Thank you both so much for a lovely holiday.

  • Very Successful Exchange

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in Alan and Sheila’s lovely and very comfortable home. It was ideal for a short break in the Scottish Borders. Innerleithen is an attractive town with good facilities in terms of shops and cafés. We also enjoyed our visit to the excellent Robert Snail’s Printing Works run by the National Trust for Scotland. There are lots of walks in the lovely local countryside and there is a host of places of historical and cultural interest to visit within a short drive. We would heartily recommend an exchange with Sheila and Alan.

  • A home from home!

Alan and Sheila were perfect hosts and we arrived to a very warm welcome in their beautiful and immaculate home. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay, with everything available we could possibly wish for. Innerleithen is a lovely town and we found everyone to be very friendly. We appreciated Alan and Sheila’s recommendations which complemented our stay. There is plenty to see and do and we heartily recommend this listing for anyone wishing to visit Scotland or the north of England. Alan and Sheila were the perfect exchangees and we would welcome another exchange in the future.

  • Relaxing conservatory with great views.

We had a wonderful time in Alan & Sheila’s home which was exceptionally clean and neat. The garden in delightful and the care and love put into its upkeep shines through. The conservatory is a lovely space to sit and enjoy viewing the distant hills. Plenty going on in the area with some great walks and visitor attractions. Many thanks Alan & Sheila for a very successful exchange.

  • Excellent exchange

Wonderful exchange partners..all went very smoothly. Beautiful clean and comfortable house. Lovely scenary and lots to do locally in the borders. Thank you @

  • Alan and Sheila’s home is absolutely lovely , very relaxing and finished to a high standard. The garden was beautiful well tended and a pleasure to spend time in. It was our first time in the Scottish Borders and Alan and Sheila provided lots of information to allow us to plan our days. We discovered that Innerleithen is a great base to explore the region, a short drive to Melrose, our favourite town, a lovely walk to Peebles with a return on their excellent bus service, a drive to the coast to Dunbar for fish and chips in the harbour. Alan and Sheila were very friendly and easy to communicate with and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

  • Lovely house in a small charming city.

It has been a superb good exchange and everything worked very well. Alan and Sheila is very nice people and easy to communicate with. We are so glad we finally could make this exchange though it was planned two years ago, but the pandemic made troubles…

  • Alan and Sheilas' home is a great place to base a Borders holiday from. The house and gardens are beautifully kept and everything in it is finished to a very high standard. We were completely bowled over by the the treats left for us and all we needed was available to make our stay extremely comfortable. Innerleithen and the surrounding areas have plenty going on and as close as 2 minutes from the house there are walks where wild deer roam and also St Ronans Wells with a visitor centre and very knowledgeable staff. Great food and drink and very friendly locals. We walked along the river tweed (but not all 97 miles of it) and also visited Peebles, Galashiels, Musselburgh and the mighty Edinburgh. We had sunshine and the odd shower and a rainbow or two. We can definitely recommend staying at Alan and Sheilas, it was a great week. Thanks to you both. Kaz and Chris.

  • A lovely home in a beautiful area

This was our first time in Scotland and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay in Innerleithen. Although we didn‘t meet Sheila and Alan they made us very welcome and we felt right at home at their place. Their house and the garden are beautiful and the view from their lovely little conservatory is amazing. Sitting there relaxing after a long day of sightseeing was the best part of the day. We couldn‘t have wished for anything more. Innerleithen and nearby Peebles are quiet little villages with lots of possibilities for bike rides or walks and nice restaurants and coffee shops. We had a great time! Thank you!

  • Our stay in Innerleithen was absolutely fanta

The house of Sheila and Alan is spacious, cosy and very comfortable, and it has a beautiful and quiet garden. The location is moreover perfect for all nature and culture lovers. Close to different hiking paths and close to Edinburgh and other beautiful little towns in the neighbourhood. Peebles was our favourite. There we found a very nice coffee stop ( the cacao Black) with the most delicious cakes and tarts. And lovely gift shops and and adorable bookstore. We had really a great time. On top of that, Sheila and Alan are fantastic hosts, extremely welcoming, thoughtful and considerate. We felt home immediately. Thanks for everything Sheila and Alan!
