For any of you that prefer outdoors without tourist trappings, the Lakes has the tallest mountain in England, Scafell Pike. This is one of many challenging peaks. Pleasure can be taken from viewing the landscape without blisters by using the mountain goat tour company based in Windermere. There is even a Beatrix Potter tour as this was her home.

Less well known but famous in the hiking world is Alfred Wainwright. His guides to the lakes began from visiting Orrest head, less than 30 minutes walk from our door.

For foodies and nightlife, Windermere and Bowness offer many restaurants and bars. You must try the local sticky toffee pudding , its too good!

Transport links here are great, bus service offering journeys to Ambleside, Grasmere and Keswick running hourly. The station in Windermere takes you to Oxenhome where you can travel direct to Edinburgh or London if you wish to venture further afield.
