There are just the two of us now, our children have children themselves! I'm Aileen and I work in a children's social services fieldwork team. I've been married to Trev for 38 years, he is a manager with Network Rail infrastructure. We love travel! Especially to the U.S.
We are looking for two to three weeks in September/October 2020, and we thought we had better put some feelers out now. We would prefer our exchangers to be living on the coast or near to the coast (Trev surfs!)

Our Home
We have a good size master bedroom located to the rear of the house, so, no traffic noise. It is located on the ground floor so stairs are not an issue. There is also a bathroom close by. We have two further bedrooms upstairs. Our lounge, dining room, fully fitted kitchen, and breakfast room, complete the ground floor. To the rear, we have a decking area which is a great place to relax and plan your travels. We can’t guarantee great weather (it IS Scotland!) but we have had some lovely Septembers. Feedback from previous exchangers tells us that even if the weather hasn’t been favourable there are so many historic places nearby that there has always been something to do (indoors!) Our house has gas central heating with a combi boiler and is double glazed. To the outside the property has a driveway that leads to a garage. There is a mainly lawned garden to the front, with fantastic views towards the Ochil hills and surrounding area. To the rear of the property there is a decked area as shown in one of the photographs. We have super-fast wi fi, and you are welcome to use a desk top PC here if you wish. We have lots of sources of music, and tv with something like 399 channels! There is a DVD player but it is something that is rarely used, now that we have discovered the joys of Netflix! Lots of DVDs too. The kitchen has just about every cooking utensil that you will need, we have books, games and loads of information regarding best places to visit, best eateries etc. My family don’t live too far away and won’t intrude; however they are there if you run into any problems

Ümbruskonna kirjeldus
Our neighbours on either side are friendly but you won't see much of them as they will be at work during the day. We are so lucky to live where we do partly because Stirling is an extremely convenient location from which to explore our wonderful Scotland. Lying in the heart of Central Scotland, we have the advantage of a suburban location where you can enjoy living in our comfortable detached house with modern conveniences, while just minutes from the motorway network taking you easily and quickly get to all the main places of interest. Of course, you may prefer the scenic routes! We also have a railway station 10 minutes from the house, so there's always an option to take the train and explore places on foot. Edinburgh, our capital city, is a good example of where the station is right in the heart of the city and you can reach lots of historic places downtown on foot. Edinburgh airport is the closest airport to our home - only 35 minutes’ drive away and offers a wide selection of destinations that could make a short 2 or 3 day break an option during your stay here. For example, if booked well in advance, there are cheap flights to Dublin (1hr flight), London (90 minutes) and Barcelona and Paris (both 2 hrs). But, we think you will find plenty to keep you interested in Scotland. It's worth mentioning we are living in "Braveheart’ and ‘Outlander country in the heart of Scotland, the Gateway to the Trossachs and the Highlands. Ideal golf/outdoor activity base. The 2014 Ryder Cup venue at Gleneagles is only 16 miles (20 mins) away. There are also many more local golf courses, if that is your thing. On the other hand, Stirling is steeped in history so you may not want to go anywhere else! A great source of info is a free app 'Explore Stirling'.

Meie soovitused, kuhu minna ja mida teha ajal, kui viibite meie kodus
The local area has some great places to visit. Stirling castle is the jewel in the crown. You HAVE to visit the Wallace Monument (Wallace as in Braveheart!) but there are lots of steps, so not for the faint hearted. The views are fantastic and worth the climb. There is so much history in the area of the castle leading down towards the town, and another must do is the ghost walk. Callander is a nice town with a busy main street with small shops, cafes and restaurants. Linlithgow palace is maybe 30 minutes away and was the birth place of Mary Queen of Scots. The Falkirk Wheel links the historic Forth & Clyde canal with the Union canal. The clever bit is that the Union canal is 35 meters higher than the Forth & Clyde, so this wheel device was created to rotate and link them together.
Less than an hour away, you can be in our capital city, Edinburgh, boasting some of Scotland's best-known attractions; including Edinburgh Castle, the Royal Mile and Princes Street Gardens. Scotland's largest city, Glasgow, is the same distance and travelling time to the west and offers the home of Scottish Opera, the Charles Rennie Mackintosh Museum, Kelvingrove Art gallery and the Burrell Collection housing a fantastic collection of artworks donated to the city by Sir William Burrell.
A little further west and you reach Loch Lomond and The Trossachs, which have fabulous scenery. 45 minutes north and you are in Perthshire, which has some spectacular mountain scenery around the Gleneagles area. Carry on further north to reach the River Tay and Royal Deeside. The home of golf at St. Andrews is just over an hour away and has a superb golf museum. I work in the little town of Auchterarder, not far from Perth, and this little town has some lovely shops.
Shops & Restaurants
There are plenty of local shops, supermarkets and restaurants no more than 10 minutes from home.
