We had a fantastic swap with Gordon and Jeanette! The pictures of the house do not do it justice as the location is so beautiful and the cottage is just lovely. The garden is huge and the river at the bottom is so tranquil, I could have sat there for hours. There is everything you could want in the cottage and there is so much to do in the area. The cottage is in a village which sits just outside of the Cairngorms National Park. It really is such a beautiful part of the world and we were spoilt for choice in terms of where to visit. I do think you would struggle without a car as buses didn't seem to go very often. We had our car, so this didn't bother us. But saying this, they are plenty of walks from the village and the train station is about 20 minutes away by car or taxi. We also managed a couple of day trips via train - one being to Edinburgh when the Fringe Festival was on. So it's fairly easy to visit other parts of Scotland too, due to the train links if you don't have a car or want to drive in to Edinburgh. We had brilliant communication from start to finish with Gordon and Jeanette - they are extremely friendly and went out of their way to make sure we were happy. When we returned our house was spotless and they had taken brilliant care of it. We have extremely fond memories of our Scottish house swap and would highly recommend swapping with them. Lovely two up two down in small village with garden at Riverside. Near Pitlochry and ideal for exploring Scotland. Lovely hosts who made us feel at home immediately. Highly recommended.
