Short walk (5min) to beach. Downtown walk is 10 minutes, where there are many shops, cafes, restaurants, live theatre, music, movies, etc. Nelson is a small town (15,000) in the heart of the Kootenays, a mountainous, forested expanse in the southeastern corner of British Columbia, and is situated on Kootenay Lake, a mountain lake that, at its longest point, is 200km long. You are surrounded by the Selkirk, Purcell and Monashee mountains, and 350km west of the Rockies. Winter or summer, amenities abound; in the winter we have Whitewater ski resort, Baldface, Selkirk Powdercats and Retallak guided ski destinations, which are but a few of dozens of renowned ski resorts and cat and heli-ski operations, all supported by limitless acres of amazing mountainous terrain. Summer time is filled with equal opportunities to enjoy British Columbia's wilderness; world class parks, glaciers, beaches, lakes and rivers that provide ample choice for every possible outdoor hobbyist. You need to be interested in the outdoor pursuits for our home to be appealing. While Nelson is a destination for performers and artists, and there are always amazing shows coming through, this is not a cultural mecca with world class museums and galleries. This is a small enclave of liberal-arts-loving-mountain folk who like a good hike and a good pint.
