We are a family of 4. I am Kristien, a Latin teacher in high school and really crazy about Romans, Italy and everything that comes with it (the language, the food...) My husband Geert is a software engineer. He likes music and plays the piano. We have 2 lovely, well behaved daughters. They dance and play music. They like to make drawings, play games, play in the garden, swim and watch television.
The girls really like animals. We have 2 cats, 2 rabbits and a dog so if you have pets that have to be taken care of: no problem at all!! We will give them lots of love! We will make sure our dog is not at home during the exchange.
We like to travel because then we really have qualitytime together. We like all kinds of holidays: cultural visits, citytrips, nature, the beach...
We live in the center of Belgium, near Brussels, but we can also swap our second home, an apartment by the sea. So, non-simultaneous swap is easy!

Koduvahetuseks pakutava kodu kirjeldus
We live in a semi-detached family home in a dead end street.
Our house has 4 floors.
We have a basement with a garage for 2 cars.
The ground floor has an open plan living room with a small office and a large kitchen. From the kitchen, you have access to the terrace, ideal for outdoor dining. The terrace has a nice view over the surrounding fields. From the terrace you have direct acces to our nice garden.
On the first floor, we have 2 bedrooms for the kids. They both have a single bed and a little couch that can be converted in a single bed. There are 2 bathrooms, one with a shower and one with a bath.
On the upper level we have an attic that is used as a bedroom now with a double bed. So, in total, 6 persons can sleep.

We live in Schepdaal, a town 10 km to the west of Brussels. A bakery, a butcher and a little supermarket are within walking distance, as well as 2 nice restaurants.
Our street is a dead end street, our neighbours are very helpful people. We are really close to the highway, but in the middle of the fields.

Our area is called 'Pajottenland': The surroundings are rural, gently sloping with typically Belgian draft horses in the fields. You can make very nice walks here! The region is also very popular with cyclists. If you are not afraid of a few hills, you can give it a shot. We can provide 2 bikes for children and 1 bike for adults.
5 minutes by car to the centre of Dilbeek with a park with a beautiful castle and a playground. The 'Wolfsputten' (a nature reserve with beautiful flowers, depending on the season) are also worth a visit.
10 minutes by car to Gaasbeek with it's historic castle with an art and furniture museum, and a park with a 17th century pleasure pavilion. In the 'cremerie' you can eat the best ice cream of the area.
Brussels: 10 km
Ghent, Antwerp and Leuven: 50 km
Bruges, called 'Venice of the North' because of the picturesque canals: 90 km
Oostende, by the coast: 100 km. We have a second home there, an apartment by the beach. If the apartment is free, you can also use it during your stay. Just let us know in time if you would like that. (For details you can check our other listing)
Amsterdam: 220 km
Paris: 315 km
All the cities I mentioned can be reached by public transport. If you prefer to use our car, a car exchange is also a possibility.
In Belgium, we also have the 'Ardennen', a region with woods and hills where you can go hiking, kayaking... About 1.30hr by car.
We have a few theme parks as well (Walibi, Bellewaerde, Plopsaland), all more or less 1 hr drive

It is important for us to find our house the way we left it: clean and tidy.
We have 2 cats that can go in and out as they wish. We also have 2 rabbits in the garden. All of our pets should be fed while we are gone. We also have a dog, a very friendly golden retriever. We will make arrangments for him during your stay. (Unless if you would like to have him there, of course)
We have a few plants inside the house that need minimal care.
A car exchange is possible! We have a Skoda Fabia with manual transmission.
