Heusden-Zolder is a municipality in the province of Limburg in Belgium and originated on January 1, 1977 from the merger of the independent municipalities of Heusden and Zolder. Adjacent to the Albert Canal and provided with three entrances and exits along the E314 and E313, the extremely easy accessibility and convenient location are important characteristics of Heusden-Zolder. From 1923 to 1992, coal was mined in the mine at Zolder. It was here that on September 30, 1992, the last coal mine in the Benelux finally closed its doors. The arrival of many foreign workers (Spaniards, Italians, but especially many Turks) in the mine gave the municipality a multicultural population in a short time.
