Koduvahetuseks pakutava kodu kirjeldus
Our home, located in the Oakland, California hills, is adjacent to the East Bay regional parks system, which extends for miles, and contains redwoods, trails, and views of the Bay. Our home is spacious with lots of privacy, sunlight and areas to relax, including 4 outside decks and terraced gardens front and back. There are views of the Bay and sunsets from the upstairs. There is plenty of room in the house: Downstairs are a study, family room, laundry and bathroom; upstairs are 3 bedrooms (one currently a craft room), 2 bathrooms, living
room, dining room, and day room. There is convenient access to all the delights of the San Francisco Bay Area. We are 1/2 mile about Highway 13 connecting to Berkeley and San Francisco. Our location combines the pleasures of an urban environment with the feeling of open space and closeness to wildlife.

Ümbruskonna kirjeldus
Our neighborhood, so close to the parks, is surprisingly rural. Sightings of deer, wild turkeys, hawks, owls, and even coyotes are not unusual. In the past, there were numerous private horse stables in the area. Now, a few still remain, surprising for an area within a city. Neighbors know each other and are friendly. Below our home is a leafy canyon which the neighbors have preserved as a land trust and where hikers, walkers and bicyclists can be found every day, enjoying the canyon or heading for the parks. Five minutes away is the village of Montclair, with restaurants, shops, markets (including a weekend farmers' market), coffee shops, banks, and everything else you would need. A half block away are Joaquin Miller Park and Redwood Regional Park. The parks have many trails (people, bicycle, and horse), second growth redwoods, scenic views, historical sites, picnic and play areas. Two public outdoor swimming pools are nearby. There is easy access to ocean beaches and recreational sports. Oakland is garnering a reputation for being a cultural and artistic center of the Bay Area,. Close by are museums, cafes, concerts, theatre, galleries, street and art fairs. The renovated Oakland Zoo has unique areas for wildlife viewing and is renowned for its elephant training techniques. Up the road is the Chabot Space & Science Center with events, learning center, and observatory.

Meie soovitused, kuhu minna ja mida teha ajal, kui viibite meie kodus
Just down the hill (but returning by foot only for the intrepid who enjoy steep hills) are a cafe, pizza parlour, hamburger joint, and small market. Within 10 minutes drive are delightful areas such as Piedmont and College Avenue, with a multitude of restaurants of every ethnicity, bakeries, cafes, and many shops. Up the road 5 minutes is the Chabot Space & Science Center. Oakland has its own remarkable zoo and the Oakland Museum has innovative art and an excellent California History section. Nearby Lake Merritt with sailing and gardens is worth a visit. Downtown Oakland has concerts and theatre, Chinatown, and its waterfront at Jack London Square. 15 minutes can take you to Berkeley and the University of California, botanical gardens, a volcanic park, Lawrence Hall of Science, and the Berkeley Art Museum and Film Institute. No need to leave the East Bay to enjoy yourself, but of course you'll want to visit San Francisco. We highly recommend visiting pretty bayside towns of Sausalito, Tiburon, and seaside towns like Stinson Beach and Bolinas. Not to be missed is the Pt. Reyes National Seashore.
Mis meile meeldib ja mis mitte ... Siin on meie eelistused ja kodu reeglid.
Non-smokers only in the house, please. We would strive to treat your home as if it were our own, and hope you will do the same. Our steps to the front door may not be advisable for people with certain disabilities or for small children. In addition, we have a small pond in the back of the house which is unfenced, so small children are not advisable. Right now, we do not have any pets, but we are very willing to discuss. Our garden is on an automatic watering system, but we hope you can do a little watering of some outdoor pots when you are here. We of course would enjoy caring for your plants/garden. For exchanges with the UK or Europe, because of jet lag, we could much prefer an extended exchange (for example, 3 to 4 weeks.)
