• Comfortable, welcoming home. Beautiful area..

  As soon as we set foot into Birchlea we instantly felt at home, the house has a really homely, or for our American readers - cosy - feel. It is situated in Strachan (pronounced Strawn) Banchory, close to Banchory itself. Banchory is a lovely town set in glorious countryside with easy access to roads which radiate north, south east and west. As is our usual practice, we rang Raymond and Myra to ensure they were finding their way round our house. We also made ourselves known to our next door neighbour who was on our contacts list and they kindly helped out on bin day while we travelled to the north coast for a few days. We really can't say too many good things about the house and the area. Lots to look at, lots to do. Lots of nice places to eat, including nice teashops with castles attached. Physical limitations meant we couldn't hike but we took long drives to look at the wonderful scenery and stroll around towns and villages. Balmoral is good value as is Crathes Castle. There were several ancient stone circles. My family clan is Gordon so we went to the area around Inverurie to check out the history. We spent a nice afternoon in Stonehaven and ambled up the coast road. The only place we didn't vivit was Aberdeen itself. Wherever we went we knew we'd be returning to a comfortable, welcoming home. If visitors do travel to the far north, do drive through the flowlands and Dunnet Head. We'd advise arranging accommodation in advance and do plan where you're going to eat. In the far north there aren't many restaurants. You'll also find many of the 'main' roads are single track with passing places. This wasn't a problem for us as we live in a rural area but best be warned. Should Raymond and Myra ever want to repeat the exchange we wouldn't hesitate.
