We enjoy meeting people and have lived in Canada, Argentina and Chile and travelled independently to many countries, often hiking, biking or cruising. We have no pets and our three sons are now in their forties living in their own homes in Auckland and the US.
Other interests include history, art, architecture, gardens, hiking, biking, shopping, food and wine. After an active day exploring, we like to enjoy the local cuisine and appreciate having a comfortable base in which to rejuvenate. We very much enjoy meeting our Homelink partners and have made successful exchanges in New Zealand as well as Australia, Canada, England, Germany, Ireland and the United States. We love our modern home and will take good care of your special space too.

Read More...We loved staying in Bruce and Marianne's immaculate, tranquil home in the heart of the city. It is conveniently situated for good public transport, lovely beaches and excellent restaurants and cafes. We enjoyed having our own space downstairs and were quickly able to feel at home. We especially loved the fact that our rooms opened onto a beautiful, peaceful garden filled with flowers and birdsong. As we are art lovers, we also appreciated all the art in the house. Thanks for a wonderful exchange.

Descripción de la casa que ofrecemos en intercambio
St Heliers is a warm, sunny-seaside village nestled in the heart of Auckland. Our home is on a quiet, elevated street and a ten minute walk to the beach, cafes, restaurants, shops and transport. The house is secure behind electric gates and the garage has internal access to the house.
Our ground-floor guest suite is private and sunny with garden views and a peep of Rangitoto. We have sound-proofing between the ground floor and 1st level and this area can be closed off to make a separate self-contained apartment. This happens occasionally during non-simultaneous exchanges if this suits our exchange partners but we will do our best to make plans to vacate the house. The guest area has a comfortable queen size bed and a spacious bathroom with a heated floor and towel rail. The bedroom opens to a deck with seating, a Weber BBQ and there is indoor dining in the conservatory. There is a lounge with a desk and sofa bed, TV, Netflix, and fast broadband. There is also a kitchenette, a second washing machine, ironing facilities and vented gas heating.
For simultaneous exchanges and during our absences on non-simultaneous exchanges, the 1st floor of the house is also available with a full kitchen, dining and lounge areas, indoor-outdoor flow to a tiled deck, powder room , a home entertainment system and views over Rangitoto Island, St Heliers suburb and the harbour.

Descripción de nuestro barrio y la zona en que se encuentra
St Heliers is a good base to visit the Auckland and the beautiful beaches. It is set around an attractive bay in a quiet, leafy neighbourhood with many parks and our home is a short walk to the sandy beach. Come closer and enjoy the bohemian atmosphere at one of the many cafes and explore the boutique shops while you're here. The village shopping area has a good mix of shops, food, cafes and services including a library and travel agents. Our favourite restaurants and cafes have views across the water to Rangitoto Island and there are many more restaurants in the adjoining bays at Kohimarama and Mission Bay as well as a movie theatre.
Attractions nearby include Kelly Tarlton's Sea-life Aquarium and Antarctic encounter with penguins and sharks. Achilles Point is a short walk up Cliff Road from St Heliers Bay where there is a viewing platform with commanding views of The Hauraki Gulf, Brown's Island and Rangitoto Island. Neighbourhood walks include Dingle Dell native bush Reserve and Tahuna Torea nature walk which follows the estuary edge through native bush alive with native Pukeko and Fantails. Check out secluded Karaka Bay accessible from a steep path down to the sea via Peacock Street. Or take a picnic over to the west coast beach at Piha or visit the Gannet colony at Muriwai beach.
The regular bus service departs from the village shops and travels along the waterfront to downtown Auckland for shops, art galleries and the ferry terminals and viaduct. Or you can cycle or walk the five miles (8 km) around the waterfront to downtown museums, galleries and the Auckland viaduct and ferries. There are several ferry services across to Devonport, or further to the sandy beaches and vineyards on Waiheke Island, Rangitoto Island (hike to the top of the dormant volcano) and the protected gulf island of Tiritiri Matangi (exquisite wildlife & revegetation). Apart from the Tongariro Crossing, most of the Great Walks are located in the South Island https://www.newzealandwalks.com/
