We are a family of 4. I am Kristien, a Latin teacher in high school and really crazy about Romans, Italy and everything that comes with it (the language, the food...) My husband Geert is a software engineer. He likes music and plays the piano. We have 2 lovely, well behaved daughters. They dance and play music. They like to make drawings, play games, play in the garden, swim and watch television.
The girls really like animals. We have 2 cats, 2 rabbits and a dog so if you have pets that have to be taken care of: no problem at all!! We will give them lots of love! We will make sure our dog is not at home during the exchange.
We like to travel because then we really have qualitytime together. We like all kinds of holidays: cultural visits, citytrips, nature, the beach...
We live in the center of Belgium, near Brussels, but we can also swap our second home, an apartment by the sea. So, non-simultaneous swap is easy!

Descripción de la casa que ofrecemos en intercambio
Nice apartment right across the beach in Oostende. The apartment was completely refurbished in 2018, only the kitchen and bathroom are still a bit 'eighties'. The apartment consists of an entrance hall with separate toilet and vestiaire. We have a spacious livingroom with a stunning seaview. There is one bedroom with a double bed. In the livingroom there is a couch that can be converted into another double bed. There are 2 terraces, one with sea view and one in the back. So, when the sun shines, you can always find a place to relax in the sunshine.
In the apartment you will find some toys and boardgames. In the basement there are some beachtoys, a few beach chairs and a windscreen.

Descripción de nuestro barrio y la zona en que se encuentra
First of all: the beach, right in front of the apartment!! A bit further on the beach, there is a little playground for the kids.
The apartment is in a quiet area but close to restaurants and shops. There is a bakery and a laundry almost next door and a big supermarket in 5min walk. There is a bike and go cart rental around the corner, a movietheater nearby and a public swimming pool where you can also swim outdoors in summer.
After a 30min walk along the dike, you reach the city center of Oostende. You can also take the tram.
In summertime there are a lot of activities on the dike in front of the apartment (evening market on sundays, fireworks on monday...)
In wintertime it is really nice to go for a walk on a windy (or even rainy day) and have the beach all to yourself.

Dónde ir y qué hacer mientras se esté en nuestra casa
A 30 min walk to the east will take you to the city center of Oostende, where you have lots of restaurants and shops. There is the casino, where you also have the opportunity to go to a concert or theatershow. You can visit the ship 'Mercator' or you can take a free boat to the other side of the harbour to visit 'Fort Napoleon'.
A 30 min walk to the west will take you to the dunes and Raversyde where you can visit remains of the 2nd world war.
Near the apartment there is a tram-stop where you can take the tram to visit all the above and all the other towns by the sea.
In the city center of Oostende you will find the railway station from which you have easy access to all interesting cities in Belgium: Bruges (15 min by train), Ghent (30 min), Brussels (1 hr), Antwerp (1 hr).

It is important for us to find our apartment neat and tidy when we get back.
Please respect the neighbours and the concierge, who tries to keep the building clean.
We always take off our shoes when we enter somebody's house. It would be nice if you do the same.
We will take good care of your home so we expect the same from our guests!
