Bayreuth - a city with two unique opera houses
Bayreuth is famous for Richard Wagner and his music. In August when the well-known festival takes place the city of Bayreuth is quite a desirable location.

Apart from the influence of the great musician Bayreuth is a margravial town, home to the UNESCO world heritage of the Margravial Opera House.
In the city you can find a lot of fine reastaurants, Italian, Greek, Indian, but of course Franconian food is offered at cosy traditional places. Within less than half an hour you find yourself in the Franconian Switzerland with bizarre rock formations and fascinating caves for great hikes and explorations. But there is also the Fichtelgebirge, in summer a hikers'
paradise, in winter a skiing area.
Lovely cities such as Bamberg, Nuremberg or Würzburg ar suitable for exciting day trips.
But also cities such as Munich in the south of Bavaria or Leipzig, Dresden, Weimar noth-east of Bayreuth and even Prague are within a 2-3 hours' drive.
