Our holiday home 'Cottage Pie' is located in Belvidere Estate an established residential community of about 200 homes built in a parkland environment on the shores of the Knysna lagoon. Attractive features of Belvidere (https://www.belvidere.co.za) include it's pretty gardens, sailing jetties, tennis courts, Belvidere Manor (a lovely residential hotel), Holy Trinity Church (a small Norman-style church consecrated in 1855) and the 'Bell pub' (a popular classic).
The nearby town of Knysna (https://www.visitknysna.co.za) is a popular destination for tourists with its year-round warm climate and many attractions. It hosts a variety of festivals and events during the year including the well known oyster festival in June/July. It is a popular golfing destination boasting several world class courses (Pezula, Simola, Knysna). The viewpoint at the famous 'Knysna Heads' gives spectacular sightings of the ocean and lagoon as flow through the 'Heads' is reversed with changing of the tides. The forests surrounding the town are dotted with walks and trails and the rivers, lagoon and beaches nearby offer swimming, kayaking and fishing opportunities. Knysna is a 6-hour drive from Cape Town or can be reached by air flying into the nearby towns of George or Plettenberg Bay.
Regionally, Knysna is a mid-point along the famous Garden Route (www.gardenroute.co.za), a 300km stretch of coast stretching from Mossel Bay to Storms River, the latter so named because of its diverse vegetation, numerous lakes and stunning beaches.
