Susan is a retired teacher of mathematics, but she still does private teaching, and marks examinations in June each year. She also makes quilts and attends the national show event at the end of July each year. Richard is a retired government director general, who can't let go of engaging in land use and rural development policy through board memberships and consultancy. He is also a town councillor. We have three sons who have flown from the parental nest; and we have gained a grandson and two granddaughters in the last few years.
Although we can consider home exchange offers with our main house, we prefer to offer the converted barn accommodation (a holiday cottage we used to let but now keep it open for interesting home exchange opportunities). Guests have the benefit of a large garden and easy walking access to the centre of historic Winchcombe in the Cotswolds hills.

Descripción de la casa que ofrecemos en intercambio
Our home is in the heart of the Cotswolds Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, with beautiful villages, excellent walking, first class restaurants and small shops locally. The house dates from 1659, but the main part was added in about 1820. It sits on 2 acres of grounds, with lawns and flowers, trees, a vegetable garden and a large pond (cannot be fenced: if you have children please note). Following a period of neglect, we restored house and garden almost 20 years ago, so the content is comfortable and modern rather than antique. There are many places around the house to relax with a book (quilting and cookery feature strongly), or you can walk into the village or the hills around. We also have a barn on the property, sometimes let to holidaymakers and available for non-simultaneous exchange (see http://thebarnreborn.com - which also provides links to what to do, where to eat etc). We do not offer non-simultaneous exchange on the main house.

Descripción de nuestro barrio y la zona en que se encuentra
Our home is in a small town with a big history. A few hundred meters away - easily walkable - there are high quality restaurants and small independent shops. Winchcombe is a renowned walking/hiking centre, with signposted walks leaving the town in all directions. You can find good suggestions on http://thebarnreborn.com.

Dónde ir y qué hacer mientras se esté en nuestra casa
The Cotswold Way National Trail passes the end of our drive. Cheltenham is a festival city reached by car or by local bus service. In the other direction, Shakespeare's Stratford on Avon is a 40 minute drive (check out the Theatre there). Other interesting villages and towns include Broadway, Chipping Campden, Stow on the Wold, Bourton, Tewkesbury and Cirencester. In Winchcombe you will find Sudeley Castle - a historic house, parkland and gardens open to the public; it's the last resting place of Katherine Parr (one of Henry VIII's six wives). National Trust properties such as Chastleton House and Chedworth Roman Villa are also interesting. If you like garden visiting, Hidcote Manor gardens are world famous and the whole area sees private gardens open under the National Gardens Scheme. If you must visit London, the best route is to drive to Kingham Station, about 30 minutes away - and from there Paddington is about 95 minutes on the train.
