Newly retired couple whose children have long since left the nest and subsequently furnished us with 5 beautiful and healthy grandchildren.
Our first ever exchange was way back in 1986 to Seattle USA and totally shaped the way we viewed future holiday ambitions. We don't vacation exclusively via exchanges, but are now looking forward to being able to travel further afield and for longer periods, as well as enjoying shorter swaps within the UK.
We are totally settled in Northallerton which offers us great access to leisure facilities and shopping (including a twice weekly market on the High Street), together with two National Parks within 15 minutes of the doorstep and our beautiful coastline in under the hour!

Plenty of opportunities for walking, sightseeing and relaxing - Rosedale, Whitby, Richmond, Harrogate and York (by train) to name a few and so much more we didn't get time to see or visit. It's always nice to return "home" to a welcoming face and Percy the cat did just that. You home felt like our home, exactly what exchanges are all about. Thank you for your hospitality Chris and Graham

We enjoyed our stay in this wonderful part of the country. Lots to see and do, not least a Bettys tea.

WE HAVE NOW SECURED EXCHANGES FOR 2024 but welcome early enquiries, both UK and elsewhere, for 2025.
Our home is a modern detached house situated in a quiet cul-de-sac, just 10 minutes walk from the railway station and a further 5 minutes walk to the town centre.
The house features three bedrooms, two bathrooms upstairs (one en-suite to master) and an additional toilet downstairs. The master bedroom has a king size bed, fitted wardrobes, dressing table and drawers, and en-suite with basin, toilet, generous shower, heated floor and heated towel rail.
A bedroom to the front of the house has as a trundle bed which can configure as a single, twin singles or super king. A further large room (with vaulted ceiling) runs from the front to the back of the property and is currently used as an office/craft room, but can also function as a bedroom if required. The family bathroom is also on the upper floor and features a bath with shower over, toilet, bidet and washbasin. The home will sleep 4 people comfortably and is light and sunny.
On the ground floor is a comfortable lounge with french doors leading to the dining room and access to the rear garden. The kitchen is well equipped with dishwasher, washer, dryer, microwave, fridge freezer, breakfast bar seating, and door to rear garden. Kitchen also offers access to an integral storeroom/'Man shed' (some might call it a garage!).

The house has gas central heating, high insulation levels and upgraded double glazing making it snug & warm in winter and cool in summer. A small garden to the front is complemented by an enclosed mature rear garden of lawn, borders and shrubs with patio area and seating.
There is generous off road parking for up to 4 cars to the front of the property.

Descripción de nuestro barrio y la zona en que se encuentra
Ours is a quiet neighbourhood, very safe and just over 1 mile from the town centre.
A small market town of approx. 18,000 residents, Northallerton is the County Town of North Yorkshire and boasts impressive civic buildings, grand tea rooms and a wondrous grocers shop renowned countrywide. Wednesday & Saturday are market days (dating back to circa 18th Century). The oldest house in Northallerton, Porch House, was connected by a tunnel running under the Main Street to the Parish Church which James 1st of England (VIth of Scotland) once used. Charles Dickens stayed in the nearby Fleece Inn and even based one of his characters on the Landlord.
The town also features a leisure centre with swimming pool, modern gymnasium, games courts and regular organised fitness activities. Nearby is the Forum, a volunteer managed facility with a comprehensive events programme including theatre productions, cinema film screenings, indoor sports and community activities - something for all ages.
The main East Coast railway line runs through Northallerton offering direct services between London and Edinburgh (and even onto Aberdeen). Other regular services run across the Pennines to Manchester, Manchester Airport and Liverpool. Good rail connections are also available for rail travel to the West Midlands and South West of the UK.
North East International Airports include Newcastle, Teesside, Leeds/Bradford and Doncaster/Sheffield.

Dónde ir y qué hacer mientras se esté en nuestra casa
The Yorkshire Dales, made internationally famous by James Herriot (the vet in TV's All Creatures Great and Small), lie just to the west of our town with the North Yorkshire Moors (and Steam Railway) close by to the East. Just 6 miles west you’ll find the Wensleydale Steam Railway providing a scenic ride into the heart of the Dale. Another nearby attraction is the World of James Herriot in Thirsk. For the young (and young at heart), the Lightwater Valley Theme Park lies just a few miles to the west, on the edge of the Dales.
The beautiful walled Roman city of York is only 40 minutes south by car and is steeped in history. York Minster and the Shambles are just two of York's many attractions and it also hosts the renowned National Railway Museum and Yorvik Viking Museum. A one hour drive will find you at the rugged East Coast. Whitby - known as Captain Cook's birthplace and reputed haunt of Dracula, is well worth a visit as are the many attractive fishing villages dotted along the coast.
To the west, the Yorkshire Dales boundary adjoins the Lake District National Park with its 16 major lakes (and many more smaller bodies of open water), challenging mountains, waterfalls and stunning valleys, all accessible by road in less than 2 hours.
Northallerton is well situated on the main east coast railway line and is halfway between London and Edinburgh, approx. 2½ hours either way by High Speed Trains.

We are a smoke free home and ask that you don't smoke inside.
Our soft-hearted and super cuddly cat, Percy, has to stay indoors for medical reasons. Please be careful using doors and windows so he doesn’t make an escape bid! Also, Percy’s litter tray will need regular refreshing but is easily managed.
See our preferences below and enjoy you're holiday!
