Ian is a civil servant, based in Bristol. Zoe sings professionally, is a trained doula (birth support partner) and runs the small barn-conversion holiday cottage adjoining the house. Louise 18 and Wilfred, 12, attend the local schools. WIlliam, 21, may come with us too. For summer 2021 we are looking for somewhere sleeping 8 to 10, so we can share our holiday with friends/family. Cat sitting for Blossom (very friendly) requested, and we have 3 chickens who are easy to care for, and produce plenty of eggs! We are active in the local community, and have family near by, so plenty of contacts for help and local advice.
We all enjoy music: singing, piano, cello and four of us play brass instruments too, reading, playing board games, gardening.
We have exchanged to Scotland (twice), France (twice), Holland (four), Germany, New Zealand and London (twice) in the last 9 years.

Descripción de la casa que ofrecemos en intercambio
Our house is a large cottage in a quarter acre garden on the edge of the village.
Four bedrooms: (A) double with en-suite WC, (B) single, plus slide-out single (proper bed) with shower cubicle, (C) single with single pull-out bed, (D) single with double sofa bed. 3 reception rooms (one with piano). Dining room seats 10. Large kitchen and breakfast area, also seats 10, dishwasher, washing machine (no drier), Aga range plus electric cooker for when it's too warm to have the Aga on. Lots of books and toys. Large private garden with swing seat, treehouse and 10ft diameter pool in summer (unheated). Patio with furniture. Fruit trees and bushes, vegetable plot - may need harvesting! Chickens and cats. Plenty of bikes of various sizes.
Most of the house is mid-19th century, but downstairs at the back some of the walls are very thick and this part is probably older. We've been here 15 years and love it! We know lots of families in the village and have family living close by in case you want to socialise with les anglais.

Descripción de nuestro barrio y la zona en que se encuentra
The joint village of Churchill and Langford has 5 pubs, 4 churches, a post office, small supermarket, petrol station and small playground. Population about 1500. You can walk straight out of our gate onto a footpath over the fields to the hill. Less than a mile from the foot of the Mendip Hills, lots of countryside and good walking. Iron age hill fort 1 mile away, with open access - a good steep climb to amazing views! 15 mins from Cheddar with its stunning Gorge and caves. 30 mins from Wells, a 'village city' with a beautiful Gothic cathedral. 30 mins from Bristol (the regional centre, with the historic ship SS Great Britain), Clevedon and Weston-super-Mare (seaside resorts - Clevedon is smaller and prettier, Weston is popular with a newly rebuilt Grand Pier), 45 mins from historic Bath, a UNESCO world heritage centre: Roman baths, medieval abbey, splendid Georgian houses. Great area for a varied holiday: country walks, beaches, ancient cities, lovely villages, historic houses.
