The best known tram is the 28, which travels between Martim Moniz and Campo de Ourique. The route starts in the historic centre, Largo Martim Moniz and heads towards the Graça neighbourhood, continuing to the Church of São Vicente de Fora. It goes on to Alfama, passing through some of the most picturesque streets and squares in the medieval areas of Lisbon, such as Rua das Escolas Gerais or Largo das Portas do Sol, a viewpoint over the hillside down to the river. From here, you can reach Castelo de São Jorge on foot in no time.

It continues towards Baixa, passing by the Cathedral, easily identified by its Romanesque façade, by the Church of Santo António and starts down the busy Rua da Conceição, a traditional shopping street known to the Lisbon population for its haberdashery.

The tram goes up the Chiado hill, almost certainly stopping in front of the well-known Pastelaria A Brasileira.

Passing Largo do Camões, at the gates of Bairro Alto, the tram goes down the hill again, this time along Calçada do Combro. Further ahead, the main highlight goes to the building of the Assembly of the Republic, former Convent of São Bento.

Then passing by the Basilica and Jardim da Estrela, the 28 continues its journey through Campo de Ourique, a residential neighborhood with tradition, to Largo dos Prazeres, where one of the city's cemeteries is located.
