Descripción de la casa que ofrecemos en intercambio
Our condo is special because of its unique location in a low-profile development within a protected "Biosphere" on the blue waters of the Yucatan coast in southern Mexico.
Although our condo is comfortable, what is so wonderful lies beyond: the view, sand, and water; the wildlife, the peace -- and the sense of connection with nature.
We never know what we will see from our breakfast table -- maybe a beach fox, a coatimundi, a Mayan Mot Mot. And if nothing exotic walks by, we are always entertained by at least a dozen hummingbirds or pelicans diving for fish.
We are literally "on the beach", steps away from the (usually) gentle surf. Our beach is one of best on the coast, with fine sand (no rocks) and a gentle slope far out into the water. Wonderful for swimming -- or just bobbing about! The beach itself provides an ever-changing backdrop for hundreds of seashells.
Our living space includes a Great Room (Living, Dining, & Kitchen) and screened full-length porch -- ALL with wonderful views of the ever-changing sea. We often eat dinner in the Central Atrium (open air, but also screened); there are 2 bedrooms & 2 baths. The Master bed/ bath has a comfortable King bed; the second bedroom has 2 twins. A child could seep on a single "put-up bed".
Because of our precise location, we are treated to incredible sunsets at least half of the year. We are generally out of the path of tropical storms, and although summers are hot, we are cooled by the sea breezes -- and three air conditioners, if the breezes fail.
Our development is rather isolated, and you won't run into a lot of people on the beach. It's a place for nature-lovers and adventurers. We are 5 km. on a dirt road from the small village of Celestun. Here you can buy basic supplies and enjoy a variety of village restaurants, as well as take boat tours to see thousands of pink flamingos (in season) and launches through the mangroves to see countless birds and mammals most any time of year.
Because of our isolated location, renting a car is advised. However, transportation from the city of Merida (a couple of hours away) can be arranged, and several of the condo owners get by fine without cars.

Descripción de nuestro barrio y la zona en que se encuentra
Our neighborhood is the Biosphere Preserve. Our neighbors are the Pelicans, Frigate birds, Coatimundi, and on & on. You may occasionally run into human neighbors, as well -- mostly seasonal Canadians, with a few Mexicans and people from the U.S.
Our beach is one of best on the coast, with fine sand (no rocks) and a gentle slope far out into the water. Wonderful for swimming -- or just bobbing about! The beach itself provides an ever-changing backdrop for hundreds of sea birds, and shells. (See our 'shell collection' photo.)
Our development, Playa Maya, maintains a very large pool which you are welcome to use without restriction -- but we prefer swimming in the sea, just steps from our back door. The waves are usually quite gentle, and you may want to take our 10' Kayak out for a paddle.
We are rather isolated, and you will meet very few people on the beach. It's a place for nature-lovers and adventurers. We are 5 km. on a dirt road from the small fishing village of Celestun. Here you can buy basic supplies and enjoy a variety of restaurants, as well as take boat tours to see thousands of pink flamingos (in season) and launches through the jungle & mangroves to see countless birds and mammals most any time of year. We are also about two km from the "Eco Lodge", XiXim. The lodge has expensive cabanas and a nice restaurant and gift shop -- this makes a great evening out.

Celestun is internationally known for it's population of Pink Flamingos, but you will find Bird Watching Tours to search out countless other jungle and sea birds. From Celestun you can book tours to a variety of Mayan ruins sites, or visit the colonial city of Merida, 60 miles away.
