We really enjoyed meeting Brigitte at the beginning of the exchange - a delightful energetic woman. The little village of Lautrec is very charming and the area has many historic and interesting chateaux and sites, including the very special town of Albi. Thank you so much, Brigitte, for sharing your home with us.

Read More...We picked up Brigitte at the train station in DC after her visit with her son in NYC. She was delightful and we enjoyed meeting her and exchanging information. She speaks English very well. We left the next day for Toulouse, France, and easily found her car at the airport when we arrived. There was lots to do and plenty of information - actually overwhelming. The only problem was that Europe was experiencing a heat wave, and we had three weeks of sunny weather with no rain and temperatures creeping up to the high 90's. Although the house did not have air conditioning, it stayed cool inside with the blinds closed during the day and the windows opened at night. We especially enjoyed seeing fields of blooming sunflowers everywhere, learning about the pink garlic of Lautrec, and visiting many medieval sights. We also drove to the Mediterranean and spent a few days there in the fishing village of Sete. All is all, it was a memorable trip and we highly recommend it.

Read More...We had a wonderful exchange at Brigitte's large and beautiful home in Lautrec, France. Her home is in rural Southwest France in the countryside about 2 miles from the medieval era village of Lautrec. Surrounded by small farms growing pink garlic and wheat, it is a tranquil and relaxing place. We were able to arrange arrival a day before she departed to our home in California. She is a gracious and inviting host, providing a welcoming French dinner and introduction to the house and surroundings. We were able to visit many fascinating villages and historical towns nearby, including an extended week in Basque Country in France and Spain. A truly grand and unique experience different from our previous exchanges to large cities like Paris or Berlin where traffic and parking are a nightmare. Language was not a problem, as most people we encountered spoke some English or Spanish and were quite friendly and helpful to us. The food was marvelous indeed, duck confit and cassoulet are a specialty of the region. For cooking at home, two large supermarkets are nearby within 15-30 minutes respectively. As in all our home exchanges, having a warm and inviting home like Brigitte's to come back to after doing the tourist thing is a priceless gift.

The setting is so lovely and we felt very welcomed by her son who lives in an attached apartment to the house. Loved going to the local markets, which are on different days of the week in many directions. The rolling green hills and tree lined roadways were so delightful. Favorite city we toured - Cordes-sur-Ciel. All the hill top cities are wonderful. Very memorable trip!

Brigitte, her friends and family were most cordial and welcoming leaving us with a feeling of being very much at home. The area offered us many interesting day trips; medieval villages, the coast/beaches, castles, and the Perigord, alternating with resting on the terrace at the villa enjoying the gorgeous views and abundant bird life on the flyway from Africa. A memorable exchange, certainly, and highly recommended.
