From our house it's a 4 minute drive to world famous Butchart Gardens, or Victoria Butterfly Garden. Church and State Winery is just down the road, on your way to Butchart Gardens, and there are more than a dozen wineries, ciders or craft breweries in the area, with tastings, meals and local lore.

If you are up for very fine dining, make a reservation at the Deep Cove Chalet - a venerable waterfront estate with one of the best wine cellars in the country. For casual sea-side meals, check out the Blues Bayou Cafe or the Seahorse Cafe. And for lively pub-style food, try Brewski's in the village.

The town of Sidney - 15 minutes away, has a lovely main street for strolling, shopping, and dining, as well as a pier and paved seaside walks that stretch for miles.

Saturday mornings from April to September the Peninsula Farmer's Market offers delicious local produce, baked goods, arts and crafts.

Victoria, a 30 minute drive, has all the amenities of a capital city and tourism mecca, well worth exploring.
