This turned out to be a very successful exchange. The 17th century inn had been superbly renovated to provide wonderful accommodation, protecting us from the wuthering winds. (We were forced to look up the dictionary meaning for this word!). We would feed the resident pheasant and mallards every morning in the garden. The adjacent, local village of Silsden is quaint. You are a stone’s throw from the moors and right in the dales where we had many great walks. It is close to other interesting towns and cities, Haworth (of Brontë fame) and York to name just two. A short drive from the Lake District and the Peak District. Lots of old abbeys and stately houses to explore.

We have just returned from a wonderful extended stay at Lower Hang Goose Farm at the southern edge of the beautiful Yorkshire Dales. Belinda and Stuart’s home is large, comfortable and architecturally stunning, with large windows positioned throughout the house to take advantage of the beautiful landscape and ever changing skies. We enjoyed seeing baby ducklings from birth, a stoat, pheasants, hares and many types of birds in the large and beautifully designed garden. Everything was immaculate and welcoming. We visited York, Leeds, Harrogate, Bolton Abbey (three times!)and went hill walking or hill running right from the door almost every day. More ambitious hikes in the Dales were never more than a 30 minute drive away and were breathtaking. We had planned to go further afield but found so much to do locally that we didn’t get around to it. Belinda and Stuart left a huge document folder filled with detailed instructions and brochures of all the places to visit and activities to participate in. They were both excellent communicators throughout. They left our place in mint condition. We highly recommend.
