We have both recently retired and like the idea of living abroad for 1-2 months at a time, rather than our usual shorter holidays. We both enjoy walking (last year Hadrian's Wall), and Paul climbs mountains (Ben Nevis; Scafell Pike). We enjoy walking in Australia, as well as the UK; any time in a National Park is always rewarding. We both have family living in the north of England and Scotland, hence the preference to exchange there in 2019. Our time is flexible, other than needing to be Scotland mid-late July. Also we are interested in NZ and Australian exchanges, at other times and for shorter periods.

Descripción de la casa que ofrecemos en intercambio
The apartment is designed to be in the bush, taking in the trees, and the outlook from both bedrooms and living spaces is towards the Brisbane River. This means it is private and no neighbours can be seen or rarely heard. It is a very private and quiet home and at 110 sq.m it is spacious over three levels, plus parking for two vehicles. Each of the two bedrooms has its own ensuite bathroom and balcony. There is a powder room for guests on the lounge level. The lounger / dining room / kitchen are open plan on one level, which opens on to spacious balconies. There is no garden to tend to; it is free growing parkland. Security is good; kookaburra's and other birds visit the balcony. The building style is cool, plus there is air conditioning for hot/cold weather.

Descripción de nuestro barrio y la zona en que se encuentra
Highgate Hill is an older, inner city suburb with predominantly old timber "Queenslander" style homes. The streets are steep so it is easy walking to the city and Southbank Parklands, galleries, theatre, etc., and uphill home! A timely and reliable council bus service is <5 minutes walk from the front door, to the city, galleries, theatre, concerts halls (Queensland Performing Art Centre), and CBD shopping malls and arcades. The 'city cat' ferries go past, but there is no pier in close walking distance (2 kms). Southbank is a vibrant entertainment parkland located on the Brisbane River opposite the city, with a lot of restaurants, swimming pools, free entertainment, etc. This is a 1 km walk downhill. www.visitbrisbane.com.au West End is an easy walk or bus to cafes, restaurants, live music, markets, boutique shops. A supermarket is also close by, either by bus or an easy drive.
Brisbane's climant is warm and sunny in "winter", 25C days and 12C nights. Summers are warmer at 18C nights, and 30C days. South East Queensland's climate is enviably sunny and predictabl3e in most seasons. Expect summer afternoon storms and dry winters. It is a mix of sub tropical and temperate.
is a one hour drive south to the Gold Coast, and one hour north to the Sunshine Coast. 1 hour drive + one hour vehicle barge to North Stradbroke Island, across Moreton Bay where we have a small beach shack available. Two hours drive to Byron Bay and northern NSW; 2 hour drive to Toowoomba and the Darling Downs. There is good accessability to all South East Queensland has to offer - HEAPS!
