If you haven’t heard about Kaskelkiez, aka Victoriastadt before, that’s because it is a true hidden gem! Pretty stucco facades and old farm buildings in the backyards - a tranquil, urban idyll directly behind the Ostkreuz, and a well-preserved Wilhelminian quarter. It is very quiet, with little traffic (literally none around our house) and green.

Yet the Kiez is very close to the magical parts of Berlin: Friedrichshain with its countless boutiques, an infinite choice of restaurants around Ostkreuz, the RAW Gelände for flea market and clubbing, Boxhagener Platz (more flea market), is just a couple of minutes by bike, or one stop by train.

Kaskelkiez is located in Rummelsburg - like a small island surrounded by train tracks between the Ostkreuz and Nöldnerplatz S-Bahn stations. Thanks to the old trees that provide shade, leafy courtyards, the two small parks on Türrschmidtstrasse and an allotment, the Victoriastadt is quite green.

The sidewalks are wide, with historic cobblestone streets in between. In the backyards, there are still old sheds with workshops and small manufactories inside. Students, artists, creatives and old-timers mingle with the families. People say there is „no place in Berlin where so many people greet each other on the street or stop for a chat, and where shopkeepers know their customers' names“. We feel blessed to live here.
