A house on a beach at less than 10 meters from the sea, in the beautiful unique surrounding of the Meria marine in the Cap Corse in front of the Tuscan Archipelago. In the background you have at your disposal the wild nature of the Cap. The tourist harbour of Macinaggio may offer to you the possibility of hiring engine or sail boats and/or of practicing windsurfing. Horse riding is also possible one mile north of Macinaggio.
Touring the Cap from Meria

Our Meria house lies, like a wrecked boat, on the beach of Meria just a few yards away from the sea-front and therefore it would be wise to plan in advance your time on the beach as if you were staying on a moored boat, paying full attention to the weather forecast for the following day and taking notice of the directions of the wind. Westerly winds (Libecciu and Mistral) are generally strong but they make the sea surface in the bay of Meria fantastically smooth and pleasant and then you would generally decide to stay home to enjoy swimming and bathing.
On the other hand, if for the following day you are forecasting a moderate or strong wind from South-east or East side then you might wisely decide to leave the bay and go touring around the Cap or on the hills around as the swell will make the sea rough and sandy in the bay of Meria and moreover you will often find a smooth sea on the other side of the Cap.

The beach of Tamarone
You can plan a day-long swimming session just in the nearby bay of Tamarone which is provided of a good bar-restaurant. (In the last years, this beach as well as many other beaches of the Cap, gets sometimes partially covered by seaweeds and may look less pleasant). You can reach the beach of Tamarone from Macinaggio in 20 minutes by car driving on a white road.



The beach of Santa Maria
Starting from the nice beach of Tamarone, a beach one mile North of Macinaggio harbour, you can reach in one hour stroll the three beaches of Santa Maria (which follow one another in less than half a mile). The beaches of Santa Maria are obviously protected by the western winds but partially protected also from the South-East winds by the isles of Finocchiarola and are really worth-while visiting and you may plan to stay there for, at least, half a day.

The beach of Barcaggio (about one-hour drive from Meria or 3-4 hours stroll along the well-known “Sentier-des-douaniers”)
If you have children then you must absolutely plan a full day on the beach of Barcaggio! Obviously you should try to avoid days with strong North or North West winds and plan almost a full day bathing on the beach. The beach is smoothly descending under the water and your kids will love playing hours in it.
When you arrive with your car in Barcaggio follow the signs for the beach parking, leave your car there and then follow a path for about half-mile that will take you to the best beach of Cap-Corse!
Bring umbrella and cushions and beverages (and perhaps food) but note that you may have lunch and shadow at a payote (i.e. a beach-cafeteria), available on the Northern part of the beach of Barcaggio. Then, starting from the beach of Barcaggio, the adults may like to stroll further North-East for less than a mile and reach the Sant-Agnellu Chapel, fully enjoying the wild nature of the windy Cap-Corse.
While coming back by car to Macinaggio you may perhaps take a deviation to visit the secluded village of Tollare.

Sentier des douaniers
From Macinaggio to Barcaggio you may also plan to go strolling via the well-known sentier-des-douaniers, a path used in the past by custom officers watching against smugglers. It is a beautiful 4-hours stroll to be made in early morning for avoiding the heat of the full summer sun or at spring-time to enjoy the colours of the blue sea versus the colored flowers. From Barcaggio you may decide to come back to Macinaggio by taxi or by boat (check the time-table in Macinaggio harbour; reservation is needed).


A trip by boat from St. Florent to Saleccia

Saleccia is another wonderful beach of Cap-Corse so famed and pleasant that nowadays it is often spoiled by a great number of boats anchoring along the beach!
You may explore Saleccia by going first to the town of St. Florent while also visiting on your way the interesting wine-district of Patrimonio and then planning a pleasant trip St.Florent-Saleccia by boat. In less than one hour trip the boat will bring you to Saleccia beach in the morning and take you back in the afternoon.
The previous day you should reserve on the phone the St Florent-Saleccia trip by boat: the phone number should be found in the instructions at home. If the wind is going to be from North-West, i.e. Mistral, the boat will land in the nearby beach of Loto. You should beplanning to stay 5-6 hours on the beach, making perhaps a pleasant stroll in the close-by wild region. You should bring some water and food with you but perhaps you might be able to find something to eat over there.


The west coast of Cap-Corse.
The west coast is panoramically beautiful, but to better enjoy its view by car you should drive from North to South in order to enjoy the sea-view on the right-side of your car, but watch out for the young Corse drivers who are usually driving unsafely too fast in the turnings!
On the west coast of Cap-Corse you will notice a lot of small chapels in the country: they are not chapels but tombs! It was a Corsican habit until a Napoleon law disallowed people to select nice places as graves for their families.
