Newfoundland is a special place and that is why we decided to take up residence here after a long absence away. My wife Jean was brought up in Joe Batts Arm on Fogo Island, Newfoundland and I'm a scouse (UK) by birth but become a Canadian many years ago. We left our three adult kids back in Manitoba, Canada where we lived for 30 years. While we miss them dearly, we couldn't resist the pull of living near the ocean any longer, we love to sail and explore coastal Newfoundland.

Descripción de la casa que ofrecemos en intercambio
Our home is situated on Old Topsail Road in historic West St John's. House is a two story compact 2400 sq feet with one bedroom on top floor as well as another room set up as a TV room. As well, there is an office, full bathroom and laundry on the top floor. The first floor has a full size dinning room and an adjacent adjacent sitting area with two vestigual fireplaces and one operating gas fireplace, making it cosy at anytime of the year. The front door opens into a foyer area providing access to a bathroom, a staircase to the second floor and a hallway to the kitchen. The kitchen is on small size but has all the amenities and a center island for food preparation. We usually eat our everyday meals at a small circular glass table in an adjacent room. The back door opens onto a small area with enclosed by a fence and covered by a canopy suitable for barbecues and outdoor eating. A stairwell off the hallway leads to the bottom floor which has two bedrooms, a full bathroom and a TV room. A side door opens onto a paved driveway where two or three cars can be parked.

Descripción de nuestro barrio y la zona en que se encuentra
St John's is an old but quaint town with a slight European feel. This town has lots of history and charm and never lets you forget its intimate relationship with nature, being built on rolling hills at the edge of the Atlantic Ocean. It is sometimes referred to as mini San Francisco. Our home is within walking distance of downtown shops and the harbor front. You can enjoy the carefree hustle and bustle of Water Street or explore the night activities at the many downtown pubs, which is a must do for all visitors. Within a short drive, you can go back in time by visiting nearby out ports or take amazing hikes on stunning East Coast trails. St John's and Newfoundland is full of surprises waiting for your discovery.
