  • Marvelous Milazzo!!

Due to Coronavirus we didn’t want to fly or travel outside of Italy and we were so fortunate to find Monica’s lovely apartment in the town of Milazzo. Although we hadn’t heard of it, Milazzo turned out to be a wonderful surprise with lots to offer. We had a lovely welcome from Monica’s daughter Ginevra and the table was full of fresh fruit and veg and 2 bottles of lovely local wine. The apartment has a huge terrace looking out on the sea and onto the castle, all manner of fruit, vegetables and cactus are grown on the terrace, wonderful. Milazzo has a lovely old town to explore with fantastic restaurants and a big Castle with great views. The town is on a peninsula with lovely pebbly beaches and a beautiful turquoise, spotlessly clean sea which we swam in every day. There is a beach within 200 meters of the apartment and many others just a short drive away. As well as the beaches we managed to fit in visits to many places of cultural, historical, and scenic interest. Sicily has so much to offer, and that’s not even mentioning the food!!! Restaurants in Milazzo which we tried and would recommend are: Malavasia Pane Cunzatu, Osteria Il Bagatto, the wonderful Trattoria la Casalinga, and Sike Gelato for ice cream, all in the old town area. Then Lido La Fenice (on the beach in the town) and Stony Bay at Baia del Tono (on the beach a short drive out on the peninsula), Here are some of the places we visited locally: Capo Milazzo, Tindari, Patti, Oliveri, The Aeolian Islands of Lipari and Salina (where Il Postino was filmed), Taormina. We took an extra few days and went on to the Siracusa and Ragusa areas before leaving Sicily. All in all a wonderful trip and I would love to go back and see more. We met Monica at the end of the trip, she is a wonderful enthusiastic person and we got on very well. I look forward to welcoming them to our house in September. Thank you so much Monica x
