Our Guest Book

  • Beautiful home for exploring the Dales

We really enjoyed our week in Kaz and Chris’s home, fascinating design features including hot and cold running badgers. Mave, we are told, is the pretty one but Dave also looked pretty good to me. Other highlights included walking the Roches, and visits to Chatsworth and Buxton. Leek itself has a lovely vibe and we were pinned down in the museum for an hour by a passing thunderstorm, time well spent. Duck Goose, in Leek, was very good for dinner one night. A most enjoyable swap, made very easy by Kaz and Chris, thanks again.

  • For lovers of walking, wildlife and modernism

Kaz and Chris have the perfect base for the Peak District, our new favourite national park. Not only that but the wildlife comes to their garden including badgers! Finally their self build house would do Kevin McCloud proud and we loved the space and tasteful artwork and furnishings too.

  • A lovely, spacious yet homely home from home!

Kaz and Chris's home could hardly be more different from our cottage, being modern, open-plan and very spacious, but it was welcoming and very comfortable. We were treated to nightly visits from badgers who came to eat peanuts on the patio and to a cock pheasant who came each morning to be fed dried mealworms. The weather wasn't kind, but we explored Leek on foot - getting soaked in the process - and re-visited Little Moreton Hall, a beautiful Tudor house cared for by the National Trust. We also re-visited Buxton on the last day of our exchange. On our 45th wedding anniversary we met friends for lunch at The Lazy Trout at Meerbrook, which had been recommended by Kaz and Chris and the following day we were invited by other friends for lunch at their home in Foxt, a village not far from Leek. All in all, a very enjoyable exchange and one we can thoroughly recommend. Mustn't forget the prosecco and lovely banana bread - for which many thanks!

  • An amazing home for a chilled holiday

Kaz and Chris were wonderful, generous hosts and their home was such a treat to stay in. They were good, responsive communicators and very gracious and understanding over an item that was accidentally broken. Lovely people and a self built home most would give their right arm for! thank you both so much. Henry and Ruth & family

  • This property is highly recommended – a “grand designs” project over four years carried out by the owners Kaz and Chris. You can read all about their labour of love in a photobook and enjoy the fruits of their labour in their comfortable, light and spacious home, with all mod cons. The house overlooks the garden – with fairy lights at night and together with the resident badgers who visit each evening. We enjoyed their music system and CD collection, plus TV corner. We appreciated the home made cake as a welcome gift. We are just returning to home exchanging and Kaz could not have been more helpful showing us the way to making life easy for swappers! They had left out maps, guide books, eating out suggestions and even told us about a cinema run in the Arts Centre in Leek. We enjoyed a film night there. The area offers lots to explore – the Staffordshire Moorlands, Buxton, Dovedale, National Trust properties. We cannot imagine anyone not enjoying this property and the area. Thank you most sincerely to Kaz and Chris. Fiona & Peter Rhodes

  • A fascinating house - really easy to relax in

Kaz is just the best - a professional home exchanger with a great sense of humour. The house is a dream - spacious, comfortable and Mave and Dave, the badger nightly visitors make the exchange irresistible. We loved Leek (the shops, the market, the art gallery) and explored the beautiful area by car. Highly recommended!

  • Big hit Grand Design type home in Leek

We enjoyed a super break over the New Year period with friends joining us to celebrate New Year's Eve together, at Chris and Kaz's light, very modern and peaceful home in Leek. Super showers and bath, open plan lounge, diner, kitchen, large patio, electric blinds, friendly neighbours and it felt as if we were in the woods, with birds, badgers, squirrels and attractive trees in the garden or over the hedge. It was for us, the ideal base for walking or cycling around the pretty Staffordshire Moorlands, where we took in the Roaches, Tittesworth Reservoir, Ridyard Lake and Bidulph Grange National Trust. Thank you both.

  • An amazing and comfortable eco house stay

Loved the house, the historic market town of Leek, as well as feeding Dave the badger each evening. A truly amazing space and beautiful modernist design. The October weather was rather poor so Leek was an excellent base, as plenty of museums and quaint towns and cities to visit eg Ashbourne, Stoke on Trent for potteries, Buxton for its historic spa as well as Georgian Derby for the Joseph Wright paintings and Arbour Low stone circle. We walked the glorious Dove Valley on the one perfect autumn day, and regretted not hiking the Roaches and Tissington Trail, but the cloud was down and wouldn't have been safe. Had no idea this part of Peak District was so pretty. The pub and music scene seems thriving in Leek, loads of lovely old pubs and would certainly recommend The Lazy Trout, the Reform and well as music in the Cock.

  • A very enjoyable weekend!

We spent a lovely weekend in Kaz and Chris’ beautiful home, and Leek is a hidden gem! A very friendly town with lots of great antique shops, markets, good pubs and places to eat. We had a the added bonus of a music festival! Watching the badgers was also a special treat. Thank you for looking after our home and the hens so well.

  • We liked Leek!

Kaz and Chris couldn't have made us more welcome. The house is beautiful inside and out, as well as being comfortable and spacious. Lots to see and do in the area. A short but very successful exchange.

  • Beautiful modern home

Kaz and Chris were easy to communicate with and went the extra mile to ensure we had a good holiday. The house is lovely, very 'Grand Designs', and the badger that visits every night was an added bonus. There was plenty to do nearby, for both adults and children, including Alton Towers. Our small grandchildren especially enjoyed the Peak Wildlife Park and then Dimensions water park in Stoke, my husband and I enjoyed a stroll round the house and gardens of Lyme House, and the towns of Bakewell and Buxton, and my daughter and son-in-law hiked up The Roaches, and enjoyed a walk to Lud Church. A great exchange, thank you Chris and Kaz.

  • Kas and Chris have the most Beautiful home!

We were made to feel so welcome. Kaz and Chris really put lots of thought into the exchange. The house is remarkable and so comfortable. The area is gorgeous and there are lots of things to see and so. I recommend this exchange highly.

  • A new open plan house, very comfortable.

Kaz & Chris's home is particularly fine, with its open plan style, it is light and very comfortable. The garden which is large and well kept provides with the patio ample area to sit outdoors. Several of their neighbours stopped & spoke to us and advised us where to eat and so forth. All in all it was a most agreeable exchange. Highly recommended.
