Nice comfortable house for nature lovers (Belgium - Limburg - Genk)

Our Guest Book

  • We had a great time at Lieve and Peter’s comfortable house. We brought our bikes and were impressed by the excellent bike paths in the province Limburg. The “knooppunt” system together with the maps and brochures provided by Lieve and Peter made planning our daily trips easy. We enjoyed exploring the surrounding countryside and even cycled through the water “Fietsen door het Water” in Bokrijk. The contact with Lieve and Peter was really friendly and uncomplicated. It was a pleasure to care for their two lovely cats. Feeding the chicken and collecting the eggs every day was an interesting new experience for us. Lieve and Peter are great swappers. We thank them for leaving our home spotlessly clean and wish them all the very best for their future home exchanges.

  • Greet swap

We voelden ons meteen thuis.

  • A very comfortable and luxurious stay

Dear Georg and Susann Thank you very much for making possible, a lovely time spending in your comfortable home. Everything was so well organized. We loved cycling in your area and enjoyed visiting Cologne. The combination of nature and city was very attractive. Thanks a lot! Nico and Erwina

  • 2 joyful weeks in beautiful Limburg

We had some beautiful days in Lieve and Peter's home. It was a good starting point for bicycle tours along Albert Kanaal to Hasselt, through the nature reserve „de maten“ and local industrial culture sites such as C-Mine, Thor Central and Labio Mista. We also had little trips by car to Maastricht (a really beautiful city). Coming back home we found our house and garden and our cat being well cared for. Dear Lieve, dear Peter, many thanks for this home exchange.

Sehr gute Haustauschpartner, sehr empfehlenswert !

  • After our arrival at Lieve`s and Peter`s house we found a delicious welcome dinner in the fridge. Thanks !! We entered a light veranda with big windows to look into the nature. We could push two of the windows to get fresh air because it was very hot in the beginning. The house is plain and modest and a little bit angled. Everything was cleaned and neat. Mostly we sat in the veranda at night because the living-room was a little bit dark. Each day we took all our meals outside on the terrace which seems to be in wintertime conveniently the carport. Sometimes we changed in the evening into the back garden and took our dinner or barbecue beside the chickens what was very nice, quiet and pieceful. The seven chickens gave us most days two delicious eggs. The proud cock awaked us in the early morning. The cats tried to do that as well. It was really funny with those animals in the home and garden of Lieve and Peter nearly like on a farm. There were lots of shops to buy bread, meat and other food only about ten minutes away. On saturday and thursday morning you can go by bike or by car to a marcet to buy fresh food. You find big german discounters like Aldi and Lidl as well. We didn´t like to go by car to buy things or to visit the citys. Everyday we cycled about 50 km with our bikes through the very nice and green surroundings and along the Albert Channel where we found very good bike paths, which are labeled with numbers. Once we could really cycle through a lake and another time above the trees in a wood. It seemed nearly incredible! There were a lots of woods around Genk but nearly no agriculture because the earth was poor and sandy. It was a pitty for us that it wasn`t allowed to swim in the lakes, what we couldn´t believe. This should be changed by the authority. For the nature it was very good that it rained sometimes. Lieve´s neighbor called Elke showed us by bike some nice places and streets in the town which we didn`t know. She was very kind and attentive and was able to speak our german language. The belgian language seemed to be difficult for us. We were not able to read the most belgian menus in the restaurants for example. But a lot of the belgian people could speak to us in english. If we had a question we sent a whatsapp to Lieve and Peter and they answered very quick and gave us good informations. They watered our garden in Germany and we did the same in their garden in Genk! And after some time the yellow lawn changed the colour through the water und got green again. That was a really good feeling for us! It was a pitty that Lieve and Peter didn´t swim in Germany in a lake or in the sea. We guess that it was too cold for them. We felt sorry that we couldn´t meet each other what would/could be nice. We wish them a good life in their home in the "Kneippstraat"!

  • Prima ruil in leuk huis!

  • All was perfect. Love to remember each day.

A really very good exchange The region offers many parks very close by - De Maten (!), "Wijers" has 1001 lakes in the vicinity. Shopping facilities, Cities, small towns - all in easy reach. We experienced an uncomplicated, clear and friendly contact. We enjoyed every day. Thank you so much, Lieve and Peter. It was great!

  • Dear Lieve and Peter, thanks again for the wonderful stay at your Home. It was one of our most beautiful home Exchange. The very good location, in a nice well-kept residental area we really enjoyed. Lieve had prepared a good welcome-meal for us - it was enough for two days. Although we felt very comfortable throughout the hole house, the conservatory soon became our favorite place. Having breakfast overlooking the garden, singing birds and one the plate fresh eggs from your five chickens ..... A big supermarket, restaurants and a delicous ice cream was not far from your home. Genk is very well located and there are many interresting things to see. For peoble who like cycling, it is a paradise. We wish Lieve and Peter all the best for the future and many exciting exchanges. Kuno & Brunhild from Ostfriesland (Germany).

  • Belgium offers much more than we imagine normally. It is really a wonderful place with many opportunities for hiking, walking, bycling, exploring beautiful towns etc. This home exchange we enjoyed very much and we can recommend very much exploring Genk and it’s surrounding. Limburg is a very interesting area and we loved staying in the cosy and welcoming house of these very nice and helpful people Lieve and Peter. When we were at home, we lived mostly in the veranda a sort of winter garden. It is a warm room that can be opened but with grids against wasps and mosquitos, open to the garden, the flowers in the pots. We often watched the cats that were playing together or we saw them laying in the sun. Just behind the garden is a wonderful big reserve “de Maten”, with its beautiful moory landscape with lots of ponds, heather – just a place where we loved to go several times. But we loved to discover towns too, such as Tongelen, the oldest town of Belgium. Two times we spent a whole day in the very near, really big and good Open Air Museum Bokrijk, where it was very lively with people living in the houses, teacher, pastor, policeman, brassorchestra in action. We loved our tasty eggs every morning and became friends with the animals, the chickens with their rooster, the two house cats, the joung neighbor cat and now after two weeks we still miss them. This swap was a really great success, and when we came home, we were very happy to find our house so clean, all our plants in the house well cared. We wish Lieve and Peter all the best and that they will experience many other home swaps wherever they like to go. Andreas and Margrit

  • We brought our bikes and expected to come to a region suitable for bicyling but what we found is a bicylist's paradise. Limburg is very beautiful with bogs and heather and lots of little lake, very good for birdwatching and hiking. The wonderful Bokrijk Open Air Museum is nearby and there are always pretty places, domains or abbeysor cafes, where you can enjoy a tasty Belgian beer or coffee and a piece of cake on the way. The knoppunt system cards lead you everywhere on very safe bikepaths of the highest standard. The whole area of the Euroregion Maastricht/Aachen/Hasselt should be visit more often by tourits from other European country because it has so much to offer. We have been there several times and go back any time again. Lieve and Peter are wonderful exchange partners. The house is very comfortable, well equipped and tidy. We got a delicious welcome meal that lasted us for 3 days. 6 hens and 1 rooster gave us fresh eggs for breakfast every day. The house is situated in a quiet and very green housing area. Right across from the house you have a view of a meadow with oaktrees and grazing horses that somehow reminded me of a painting by Magritte. Very good shopping opportunities were in easy reach on foot or by bike. We drove our car onto the premises on our day of arrival and didn't touch it again until our day of departure. And don't let me forget: We were very impressed by the pristine state they left our own house in.

  • A lovely place to stay
