Hi we are Dutch and Jo. We are both retired now and our children are grown up. We have enjoyed many homeswaps all over Europe. We like to visit mainly urban centres, but smaller places with good transport links close to urban centres are also good. We love history and culture. We enjoy visiting world UNESCO heritage sites.

Description of the home we are offering for exchange
We now have a swap for summer 2019.
Our home is a former soap factory that is over a hundred years old. Over three floors we can offer three bedrooms - two doubles and a single. In addition there is a fold-out sofa bed in the attic bedroom. Our children have left home now, so there are just the two of us. Though they have left behind collections of toys/comics/games etc.
We are looking for at least two weeks and are flexible as to dates, but preferably in the warmer months of May to September. We like fairly urban destinations with cultural things to explore and good public transport links. World UNESCO heritage sites are a plus.

Description of our neighbourhood and surrounding area
We live in a lovely Yorkshire village called Marsden, We are surrounded by beautiful moorland with dry stone walls and plenty of sheep - Bronte country. We are at the top end of the National Peak District. A good destination for those who like walking/hiking and beautiful countryside. We are surrounded by reservoirs and in summer locals swim in Sparth reservoir (about a pleasant 20 min walk along the canal). The village itself is a 5 min walk from our house providing you with shops, cafes, restaurants and of course British pubs.
If you like to combine country with town we are located less than an hour to Manchester, Leeds or Bradford. A little further afield are the historic cities of York, Liverpool and Chester. By car the Lake District is totally accessible, as is the North Yorkshire Moors, or in an hour and a half you could be enjoying the beach and theme park at Blackpool. We are 45 mins from Manchester airport and 3 1/2 hours from London.

Our home exchange - places to go and things to do while staying in our home
The Huddersfield Narrow canal provides lovely and easy walks. Half hour walk will take you to Stannedge Tunnel and Visitors Centre where you can find out the history of the industrial revolution in our area and take a guided boat tour through the tunnel. There's also a children's play area, not to mention very nice homemade cakes at the cafe.
There are several nice villages in the vicinity. Holmfirth is very popular as the setting for a long time British TV show Last of the Summer Wine. We like to catch the bus towards Manchester to visit Uppermill, the journey alone provides amazing views. We also like to walk along the canal to Slaithwaite (about 2 miles away) where there are several nice cafes and antique and arts and crafts shops. Our favourite curry house is here which we usually combine with a drink or two at the Commercial or the Shoulder of Mutton (or both).
For city centre attractions, museums, galleries, nightlife and shopping Manchester is our destination of choice. We particularly enjoy the quirkiness of the Northern Quarter. We love the City art gallery and going to the cinema or theatre at Home.
There is such a lot to do that all interests will be catered for.
