Our Home For Exchange

Description of the home we are offering for exchange

3200 square foot (300 square meter) home situated on a hill overlooking Portland, Oregon, a paradise for "foodies" and local, progressive culture. Our home offers view over four mountains and has three bedrooms, three full baths plus an additional half bath, two decks, a great room, a separate rec room and plenty of space. We are located in one of Portland's best neighborhoods, with commanding views yet only a 15 minute walk to 23rd Avenue, one of the most vibrant shopping and dining areas of Portland. The Pearl District is just a few minutes farther on foot. The Hawthorne District, Alberta District and other unique, vibrant neighborhoods are just a few minutes' drive away.

There are more than a dozen breweries located within walking distance. Outside the city are the Williamette Valley wine country, the scenic Columbia River Valley, Oregon's beautiful coastline and much mor

Description of our neighbourhood and surrounding area

A quiet neighborhood of stately homes located on a hill above one of Portland's most vibrant dining and shopping districts. Forest Park (the largest city park in the USA) is a 15 minute walk up hill and the vibrant 23rd Avenue corridor is a 15 minute walk downhill. Portland's International Rose Test Garden, Japanese Garden and Historic Pittock Mansion are all an pleasant walk away, as are dozens of restaurants and brew pubs. Our home is located about 450 feet (140 meters) above the Williamette River that bisects the city of Portland. While we are located just a few minutes from the city center, our location on the hill affords not only privacy but a location on a very quiet street with little traffic. Portland is considered the best biking city in the USA (and one of the best in the world) and we have two high quality bikes available for use. Oregon offers outdoor activities from skiing in the winter to hiking and boating in the summer. It is famous for food, beer and wine.

There are more restaurants and shops withing walking distance than we could possibly name, including 85 brew pubs! All of Portland, with its vibrant culture, art scene and food culture, is just minutes away by car. From Portland, day trips can take you to the seaside, scenic hiking trails along the Columbia River, scenic Mount Hood, the awe-inspiring caldera of Mount St. Helens, the Williamette Valley wine district, the Yakima Valley Wine district in Washington and many other attractions. Oregon and Washington states are an outdoor enthusiast's dreamland.

Our home exchange - here are our Preferences and House Rules

NOTE: We have already accepted exchange in the summer and fall of 2017, so we will not be looking for another exchange until 2018.


We are offering our primary home and are searching for a simultaneous exchange with someone offering the same. Our home is elegant yet comfortable and fully furnished for everyday living. While we do not have children, there is plenty of room for older children. Our home is ideally designed for a multi-generational family or a group of friends, with two complete kitchens, two sets of washer/dryer, and an independent entrance for the lower floor. The master suite is separated from the other two bedrooms, so it is not appropriate for families with small children. We are a retired couple (former diplomats who have lived overseas much of our lives) and are open to exchanges anywhere and anytime.

We have a small raised garden plus various planters on the deck that require some, but not much, attention.
