I'm a lifelong learner and always creating something my studio basement. My name is Kathy and I usually travel with friends. I'm a retired teacher, so I have all kinds of travel options. I enjoyed home exchanges for a few years at my previous home, but this year moved to Everett, Washington, which is about an hour to Seattle, and hour and a half to Vancouver B.C. and and hour and a half to cross country or ski at Stevens Pass.

Description of the home we are offering for exchange
My home feels like a small, homey cottage. The living area is one floor with the living room opening to the kitchen. The house built in 1942, was partially remodeled, but the bathroom and kitchen are original. There is a hide-a bed in the TV room/bedroom which could be opened (almost takes up the whole room), but this home is most comfortable for two people. The kitchen windows look out to the backyard of grass and trees with the bird feeder visible. There is a hummingbird feeder just outside one of the kitchen windows. The back porch is wonderful in the Spring and Summer. If you are an artist, there is an huge basement (with windows) where you could paint or work on creative projects ( I promise to clear of an entire table). My home has plenty of parking. It is on a sometimes busy street, but such a good location.

Description of our neighbourhood and surrounding area
Everett is kind of a funky Northwest city close to lots of activities. You are a few minutes from water in either Everett or Mukilteo. Jump on the Mukilteo ferry for a day trip to Whidbey Island. If you are new to the area, Deception Pass on Whidbey Island has amazing sunsets. In five minutes you can take picnic to Mukilteo Beach and wade in the water or even have a drink at Ivar's and watch the ferry load. In a couple of hours you can be in the unique town of Leavenworth in Eastern Washington. In the winter there are three cross country ski areas, or downhill skiing at Stevens Pass. Snohomish, 20 minutes east, is an antique town with fun pubs and restaurants. During the summer there are farmer's markets almost every day of the week in cities close by. Seattle is about 45 minutes to an hour depending on traffic. At least spend a day exploring Seattle's Pike Place market, the Seattle Art Museum or attend a sports or theatre event. If you like baseball, you could watch the local Aquasox play in Everett. I can leave a list of good local coffee shops, restaurants, and bakeries. There is a Vietnamese bakery five minutes from the house that has maple bars at least 8 or 9 inches long. There is a park that is a block away where you could take your coffee and just look out on the water. In the summer just spend time on the back porch and barbecue hamburgers and watch the wildlife.

Our home exchange - here are our Preferences and House Rules
I'm certain if we are exchanging homes, we are respectful of each other's homes and surroundings. I will leave a packet of house information that details wifi, TV, emergency numbers, and events that occur during your stay. It would be great if you could write in the journal. I have had people write poems, draw pictures, make driftwood sculptures, and even a hand painted t-shirt. If you happen to be an artist, I have an entire basement you could use for a studio, but you would need to bring your own supplies.
