Description of the home we are offering for exchange
Welcome to the vibrant and historic Hill East section of Capitol Hill in Washington DC. Our home is a brick row house 1 block from the Metro, bus and bike share, with quick access to I-95, I-295, I-395. We're an easy walk or bike ride to Eastern Market and H Street with their plethora of excellent restaurants and boutiques, as well as the library, Lincoln Park, RFK Stadium and community center.
Our home is great for all visitors and can easily accommodate families with children; we have toys, books, and kids' movies, as well as a small outdoor space with sandbox. Relax on the front porch while chatting with our friendly neighbors and watching your kids play in the front yard!
In addition to our main 2 story house, we have a 1 bedroom apartment in the basement with full-size kitchen and bathroom that could accommodate at least 2 more guests, upon negotiation. The house is an excellent home base for exploring the museums, monuments, parks and historic sites of the area. We love raising our family here and know you'll enjoy your visit to our nation's capital!

Description of our neighbourhood and surrounding area
Capitol Hill is the center of the U.S. government, where you can find distinctive buildings like the Capitol Building, the Supreme Court, The Library of Congress, the Botanic Garden and the Folger Shakespeare Library. But it's the mini neighborhoods like Eastern Market, Barracks Row, Navy Yard and H Street, with their unique blend of federal and local diversions, that make Capitol Hill a vibrant and attractive place to visit and live. Here you'll find excellent restaurants and cafés, the library, historic Eastern Market, Trader Joe's and Yes! Organic Market, independent book stores, yoga studios, a fantastic game store, chic boutiques, the Anacostia Boathouse, several public pools, and a variety of parks and playgrounds. A little further north is the National Arboretum with acres of beautiful outdoor space for playing and exploring. Capitol Hill also offers easy access to the highways and Metro system, so you can easily visit other attractions in the city, or venture out to Maryland and Virginia.

Eastern Market, Yards Park, Barracks Row, H Street, Union Market are all excellent areas on Capitol Hill.
Other distinctive neighborhoods in DC include downtown where you'll find the National Mall and all the Smithsonian Museums, Penn Quarter/Chinatown with more restaurants and theaters, Dupont Circle, Adams Morgan and U Street with even more amazing restaurants and the National Zoo, Rock Creek Park, and the National Arboretum. Over the bridge in Virginia is the Pentagon, several memorials, some wonderful nature centers, and charming Old Town Alexandria. On the other side in Maryland you can visit the shops and casinos at National Harbor.
