Jay and Kari are happy residents of Vashon Island, WA and parents to a fun and curious 10 year old daughter. Jay is a UX designer for Amazon and commutes by bike and ferry to his office in downtown Seattle. Kari is a Master of Social Work candidate who will be graduating July 2017 and currently works at the Seattle Cancer Care Alliance in oncology social work. Our interests include travel (of course), trying new foods, cycling, hiking through the trails and on the beaches of our island, and spending time with our dog and three cats. We did a house swap in 2011 and are excited to do another one this summer!

Description of the home we are offering for exchange
Come to lovely Vashon Island this summer. We're only a 25 minute ferry to West Seattle or a 20 minute water taxi to downtown Seattle. There is an easy bus less than a block away that will take you to the ferry and water taxi, or you can have access to our car to drive onto the ferry or park in the ferry parking lot.
We have a 3 br 2 ba house on half an acre with a large yard and garden space. Lots of places to hike, cycle, or just enjoy some quiet beauty near the bustling city of Seattle. Sit outside on our swing, enjoy either of the decks off of the upstairs bedrooms, or dine outside on our wrap around porch on a summer evening.

Description of our neighbourhood and surrounding area
Vashon Island is home to artists, musicians, political activists, eccentrics, homesteaders, wine makers, and lovers of nature. Our house is a short walk from the charming downtown where you can enjoy art galleries, a movie theater, unique gift stores, restaurants (including one of the top-rated Thai restaurants in the country), and local music. Vashon Island has miles of hiking, horseback riding, and mountain biking trails, as well as beaches where you can enjoy the summer sun or launch your kayak or paddle board. If you're itching for adventure in the city - a water taxi or ferry will take you into Seattle where you can enjoy world class restaurants, museums, the famous Pike Place market, some of the best coffee in the world, among other fun activities. At our home you get the best of both worlds - enjoy the peace and quiet of island life, and then head to the city for a more exciting pace. Our home exchange - places to go and things to do while staying in our home
We're a short walk from the quaint village of Vashon. You'll find art galleries, restaurants, cafes, a bookstore, movie theater, two grocery stores, and gift shopping all within a 10 minute walk. We're also close to local farm stands, the library, and miles of hiking trails. We're a short drive to the public beach and the public swimming pool, both of which are great for kids.
Seattle is a short ferry or water taxi ride away, as well. Seattle is a bustling city full of arts (literary, visual, and musical), beautiful parks and beaches, and lots of excellent choices for dining. Visit Pioneer Square, full of galleries, bars, and restaurants, and then walk to the famous Pike Place Market for fresh seafood, fruits, vegetables, and crafts. Explore some of the funkier neighborhoods of Seattle, such as Capitol Hill, Ballard, and Fremont for more great dining and shopping experiences!

Our home exchange - here are our Preferences and House Rules
We ask only that our home is clean when we come home. We have three cats who are very easy going and we would love for someone to look after them. We also have a dog, but we can bring him to a friend's home while you are staying with us.
