Avid travelers looking to visit new places and share our home in Marin County or our chalet in the Tahoe/Truckee area of northern California. We are basically retired and often travel with our two adult kids (26 and 28) or other close family. We did 10 wonderful family exchanges between 2000 and 2012. Now that our kids are grown we have the time and freedom again to travel and explore. We have a small mini-poodle who loves people but could also stay elsewhere during an exchange.

Truckee has rich American history due to its former logging industry and the building of the transcontinental railroad which goes through Truckee on its way to Promontory Point Utah. With picturesque mountain views, a river for tubing and biking in spring and summer, and endless activities, Truckee is a destination locals and tourists who want to fully experience the mountain lifestyle and outdoor activities it comes with. Sports enthusiasts with adore Truckee.
In a recent article published by Cheapism, the city of Truckee was named the “most beautiful mountain town in the entire state of California.”
“Truckee, a former railroad town north of Lake Tahoe bills itself as a base camp for a big life, and indeed, there are loads of things to do here,” the article read. “Visitors can explore the streets of the historic downtown, taking in its shops, restaurants, breweries, and markets; or they can head outdoors for plenty to whet a year-round adventurer’s thirst, including everything from horseback riding and hiking to skiing and sledding or even skateboarding and practicing jumps in one of the local bike and skate parks.” There are 4 world-class ski resorts within an hour drive.
“Finally, as the site of the 19th-century Donner Party incident, it has a fascinating, if macabre, piece of history that gives it just a bit more edge than other mountain towns."
