Gary and Kathleen are newly retired. In 2008, we took early retirement from our jobs in Nevada (Gary was an elementary art teacher and Kathleen worked for the State of Nevada providing services to people with developmental disabilities) and moved back to our hometown of Flagstaff, Arizona to manage Kathleen's parents' business. In 2009, we bought the business from my mom after my dad passed away. In October 2017, we sold the business and are now free to travel! We love hiking, backpacking, camping, x-c skiing, and mountain biking. We own a cabin outside of Flagstaff, so we are able to do nonsimultaneous exchanges.

We especially loved their outdoor space where we ate all our meals and just relaxed. We would recommend this exchange for anyone who enjoys hiking, biking, birding, photography and sightseeing. It is also an easy 2 hour drive to the south rim of the Grand Canyon. Kathleen and Gary were easy to communicate with and so kind to us. The house was very comfortable and absolutely spotless!

Read More...Gary and Kathleen's house has amazing views of Sedona's famous red rocks from just about every room. It was a pleasure to sit in the living room, morning and evening, and watch the ever changing colors of the rocks as the sun rose and set. Gary and Kathleen personally welcomed us to their home. They knew we were there for my birthday and our anniversary and surprised us with a bottle of wine, breakfast food and other goodies. It was such a warm welcome we felt at home immediately and so appreciated their thoughtfulness. Their home is ideally situated for hiking - in fact, you can walk out the door to trails and the Amitabha Stupa and Peace Park. They are close in to shops, restaurants, grocery stores - you name it. We love West Sedona and loved their house as the location was perfect. The home was spotless and very comfortable. We certainly hope to come again! Thank you Kathleen and Gary for a wonderful time.

We had magnificent views out the windows and off the deck and walked from their house to excellent hiking. The bed was super comfy and we enjoyed Netflix when we were too tired to do anything else in the evenings. Before our first evening was over we were discussing when we could exchange again. Thank you, Gary and Kathleen!

Description of the home we are offering for exchange
We call our home our "Sedona Villa" and we invite you to come stay in our lovely updated home with a cozy cottage feel. We feel very blessed with our little piece of heaven and we love sharing it with family and friends. We have amazing views! Our favorite saying is that we have a MILLION DOLLAR VIEW! Plan on spending a lot of time relaxing in the living room or on one of our three patios soaking in the views of Capitol Butte (aka Thunder Mountain), Coffee Pot, Sugarloaf, Chimney Rock, and Lizard Head. Sedona is known for it's beautiful sunsets, which you can enjoy from our home. Sedona is a "Dark Skies Community," so at night you can really see the stars (we have no street lights in our neighborhood). Weather permitting, we eat our breakfast, lunch, and/or dinner on the patio. We live in a very quiet neighborhood. On occasion, we see coyotes, deer, javelina, bobcats, quail, and roadrunners in our yard. A few hummingbirds hang out all year long. In only a few minutes, you can be on a hiking/mountain biking trail from our back door -- there are trails going in all directions.
Our master bedroom has a queen size bed, and both couches fold out into queen size beds. Our second bedroom is used as our studio/office/workout room. Extra guests can use that room for their luggage, etc.
If you are coming to Sedona for the views, we have views! If you are coming for the hiking/biking trails, you can have easy access to many of them out our back door! If you are coming for other events in Sedona, we are only minutes away from most of them.

Description of our neighbourhood and surrounding area
We live in West Sedona in a quiet, friendly neighborhood with only ten homes on our street. Our street has incredible views. One day a realtor walking up our street commented that our street has the best views in this part of town. Of course, we agree with him. Some of the homes on our street are second homes and/or vacation homes. We are away from the hustle and bustle of the main highway through town and our neighborhood is very quiet. It only takes a few minutes out our back door to walk to hiking/mountain biking trails going in all directions. We live just minutes away from grocery stores, gas stations, and restaurants. We are about 10 minutes from Uptown Sedona and the Tlaquepaque Arts & Crafts Village with eclectic shops, galleries and restaurants, and the Sedona Heritage Museum. From our home, you can easily drive to many of the activities in the Verde Valley, including wineries, ancient Indian ruins, the ghost town of Jerome, kayaking and inner tubing on the Verde River, hot air balloon rides, and many more.
Sedona is beautiful any time of year. The average winter temperatures are in the 50's and upper 90's in the summer. It gets cold enough to snow in the winter, but the snow melts quickly. In the summer, sometimes it will go over 100 during the day but cools down at night.

Our home exchange - places to go and things to do while staying in our home
Sedona is a "destination location" with activities that include miles and miles of hiking/mountain biking trails, shopping (Uptown Sedona and Tlaquepaque Arts & Crafts Village), art galleries, jeep and helicopter tours, cultural events such as the Film Festival, outdoor events such as mountain biking and a marathon, and many more activities. Check out: https://visitsedona.com It is a short drive to Oak Creek Canyon (to the north), and wineries and wine tasting in the Verde Valley (to the southwest), as well as kayaking and inner tubing on the Verde River near the small town of Cottonwood (which has it's own restaurants, stores, and a Wal-Mart), hot air balloons, ancient Indian ruins, and much more. We are 25 miles from the quaint little ghost town of Jerome. The Grand Canyon is less than 2 1/2 hours away to the north. The city of Flagstaff is less than an hour away (33 miles to the north) and the Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport is about two hours (south).
