We are a middle-aged couple (history professor and corporate responsibility executive) who have raised two sons in this loft. We have always traveled extensively, and -- with both sons now grown -- we are planning to spend longer periods in places we especially love. Description of our neighbourhood and surrounding area
We live in "old" NYC, the part of Manhattan where the Dutch settled first. The buildings are mostly 5 stories or less, creating a quieter, sunnier streetscape. The famed Manhatten street "grid" is less severe. There is a lot of street life, including restaurants and cafes. The Hudson river is a ten-minute walk from our apartment, with bike or walking paths, free kayaks and tennis courts open to the public (also free).

It is important for us to find our house clean and neat when we return, and to hear from our upstairs and downstairs neighbors that our guests were pleasant and quiet. While we do have air conditioning, it is not built in (we rely on wall units), so someone who needs a genuinely cold living space in summertime probably is not the right guest for us.
