Read More...Staying in Melissa and Steve’s home was truly the holiday of a lifetime. Situated in a beautiful part of the island, the house had great views and the weather was very clement, the air was fresh and it was easy to access all parts of Maui. Their house was very clean and comfortable, with everything that we needed for a three week holiday including a massive washing machine and dryer. We were able to get in touch very easily with Melissa by email to find out anything we wanted to know about the house and places to visit. Unusually for our family we went on trips almost every day to experience everything that the wonderful island of Maui has to offer. We visited many beaches, and were amazed at how empty of other people these were – we often had the beaches to ourselves, with just the sea turtles for company. There was plenty to do in addition to surfing, swimming and sun bathing; the sugar museum, local gardens and trip up to the top of a volcano were particular highlights. We also had a really great trip in a glass bottomed boat, which was perfect for seeing the coral reef without getting wet, with a knowledgeable guide, and highly recommended for anyone who doesn’t like snorkelling or diving. Everyone we met was helpful and welcoming, and truly embodied the spirit of Aloha. The more touristy parts of the island, such as Paia, were interesting too, with lots of independent shops selling knick-knacks, jewellery, art and clothes. The restaurants were easy to get to and generally OK, if expensive. A word of warning to Europeans visiting – the restaurants closed very early by our standards (nothing much was open for new covers after 8pm). There were some good supermarkets close by the house, so we ate in most days. If you are looking for an exchange to somewhere really special then this is the one for you!

Also, providing all that you did to accommodate for our 19 month old twin grandchildren was so thoughtful. Our "welcome" fruit display was delightful and delicious. In so many ways your home worked exceedingly well for our family. The incredible western Maui views were just the icing on the cake. A future exchange would be welcomed. Mahalo!
