Description of the home we are offering for exchange
This is a beautiful, light-filled top-floor apartment in a historic building on a quiet, tree-lined street in Park Slope, a hip and family-friendly neighborhood of Brooklyn known for its excellent restaurants, shopping, access to subways, and proximity to Prospect Park.
Our apartment will be your home away from home in New York. This is a quiet, tree-lined street, and the apartment itself is very quiet as it is on the top floor--yet you are steps away from all that New York City has to offer. The neighborhood's ready subway access means that you can go to the museums and galleries in Chelsea, eat in Chinatown, or take a day trip to Coney Island--or do all three in the same day. Other well-known Brooklyn neighborhoods--Williamsburg, Cobble Hill, Bed-Stuy, Red Hook, and Prospect Heights--are all a short walk, bus, or subway ride. But the truth is that Park Slope and Downtown Brooklyn have so much to do that you may not ever want to leave the neighborhood: in addition to Prospect Park (with its food trucks, Smorgasburg food stalls, and bustling weekend farmers' market), the Brooklyn Museum, and Brooklyn Academy of Music, our apartment is situated right in the middle of the popular 7th Avenue and 5th Avenue shopping districts (featuring hundreds of excellent restaurants, shops featuring local design and couture, bookstores, etc.).
The apartment has been lovingly renovated and has gorgeous oak parquet hardwood floors throughout. Two bedrooms and two bathrooms with a modern kitchen. Floor-through plan (the apartment is one whole floor) means lots of light. Atrium with skylight allows us to grow herbs in our kitchen, and the skylight opens to the roof for extra ventilation.
It is a 4th-floor walk-up (no elevator). So, it is not suitable for anyone who has difficulty climbing stairs. It is very light, quiet, and spacious.
We have two cats but they do not need to be in the apartment at the time of the swap. We have a second home, in Massachusetts, and we are able to do a non-simultaneous swap.
We have done two home exchanges with members of the Homelink community, to France and to Italy, and they have been very successful. Our guests have always loved the apartment and wanted to come back. We hope to do many more.
