Description of the home we are offering for exchange
Extended Victorian end of terrace house located within the city walls in historic York. Very quiet neighbourhood with plenty of roadside parking (permits required) but within10 minutes walk of the City Centre and the rail station. The house sleeps 6, with one downstairs double bedroom with adjacent shower room, one large upstairs bedroom with double bed and single sofa bed. There is also a single sofa bed in the living room.
The house was built in 1865 approximately and has been extended twice to provide additional accommodation, including a large kitchen and family bathroom with whirlpool bath and separate shower. The front of the house has views over the old churchyard (now a community garden) to the buildings over the River Ouse, whilst from the back bedroom window you can see the ancient city walls. There is a small yard with outside seating and plenty of plants.
Car parking is available with the use of daily parking permits but the house is only 5-10 minutes walk from York station where there are excellent train links all over the UK and locally in Yorkshire. The use of cycles and/or a vehicle can be negotiated but is not included.
Please note that I have a washing machine but not a tumble drier.

Description of our neighbourhood and surrounding area
Bishophill is a quiet backwater within the medieval city walls of the historic city of York. The city centre is only 5-10 pminutes away with all its attractions. The railway station is also 10 minutes walk. The area is very friendly with a real sense of community - including our very own community cooperative pub the Golden Ball. There is no through traffic so the roads are quiet and safe. Across the road is the Community Garden which is a lovely space to sit and listen to the birds, and watch the squirrels. It is a short walk down a cobbled lane to the River Ouse with walks along the banks to Rowntree Park and beyond. The shops and cafes of Bishy Road are 5 minutes walk away, with almost everything you could need during your stay.

Our home exchange - places to go and things to do while staying in our home
York itself is full of so many places to visit - from walking the City Walls, the Minster, museums, the Chocolate Story - the list is endless. There are loads of great restaurants, bars and cafes - plus York is famous for its small independent shops. It is worth going on any of the guided walks of the city and I would recommend the York Cycle Tours as well for a different perspective. Outside York, Yorkshire itself has wonderful countryside - the Moors, Dales and Wolds as well as the big cities of Leeds and Sheffield. With York station being so close and well connected, you can get to loads of places in England for a day trip.
Our home exchange - here are our Preferences and House Rules
This is an old house so needs treating with care. As the house is not set up for infants/toddlers, older children only please. Please leave the house as you found it - clean and tidy. Respect the furniture and please do not wear outside shoes in the house.
