Our Home For Exchange

Description of the home we are offering for exchange

We live in a farmhouse in 4 acres of land (large garden and 2 fields) situated on a beautiful moor with far reaching views down both the Aire and Wharfe valleys. You can walk from our house onto Ilkley moor. Although the moor is quiet and full of wildlife we do not live in a remote place. We live within walking distance of 3 pubs in Addingham (3 miles) and the nearest town is Ilkley (6 miles).
There is a large kitchen with a dining area and a sitting area around a wood burning stove. There is a large lounge with TV and a separate sitting area again by a wood burning stove. There are 3 double bedrooms upstairs (one en-suite) and a family bathroom. A downstairs utility room has a toilet. There is a studio art room off the sitting room with a bedroom and en-suite attached. There is a double garage. The garden has several seating areas. The garden is mainly lawn and is not highly manicured, with several areas left unkempt for wildlife. There is a small, unfenced pond. Our farmer neighbour maintains our fields and uses them to graze his sheep.
We are lucky to have delicious Yorkshire water pumped up from our own borehole. We have a combination of underfloor heating and radiators and hot water comes from our ground source heat pump.

Neighbourhood

Description of our neighbourhood and surrounding area

We have very helpful and thoughtful neighbours and family members live a mile away. A car is useful as our nearest shop is 2.5 miles away, down the hill in Silsden. There are many beautiful walks onto the moor from the house or you can drive a short distance into the Dales. The Dales Way starts in nearby Ilkley and the Yorkshire Dales National Park boundary is 5 miles away. Leeds, Ilkley and Skipton all offer cultural interest (castle, canals, theatre, cinema, Art galleries ,museums, restaurants, tea shops, pubs, access to the Settle-Carlisle steam railway etc).Ilkley was judged the best place to live in the UK by the Sunday Times in 2022. Ilkley has a tennis club, an outdoor lido, indoor swimming pool and a river. There are several local golf courses which welcome non-members. There is good road riding for cyclists from the house and nearby Gisburn Forest offers excellent mountain biking trails.
There are 2 train stations locally, one in Steeton and Silsden (2.5 miles) and the second in Ilkley (6 miles). It takes 30 mins on the train to Leeds.

Attractions

Our home exchange - places to go and things to do while staying in our home

It is a 3 mile walk to great pubs in Addingham but as it is downhill all the way it may be advisable to book a taxi to get home!
The Dales Way can be accessed in Addingham and Ilkley and there are unlimited opportunities for beautiful walks and bike rides from our house or a short drive will take you to the Dales (e.g. Bolton Abbey is 6 miles and Grassington is 17 miles). Opportunities for day trips include hiring a canal boat in Silsden or driving to York, Settle, The Yorkshire Sculpture Park, the Hepworth gallery in Wakefield,
Salt’s Mill (permanent David Hockney exhibition)
and the local Keighley and Worth Valley steam railway will take you to Haworth, the home of the Brontes. The Lake District, the Peak District, the North York Moors and Yorkshire Wolds and the Yorkshire Coast (Whitby, Scarborough, Filey, Robin Hood’s Bay etc) are all easily accessible for a weekend trip. There are many National Trust properties to explore nearby including Fountain’s Abbey as well as Castle Howard and Harewood House.
There are excellent shopping opportunities in Leeds.

Our Preferences

Our home exchange - here are our Preferences and House Rules

It is important for us that our house is cared for and looked after whilst we are away. We have taken pleasure in carefully renovating and furnishing our home and we hope you will enjoy staying in it but please leave it clean and tidy for our return.
Children are welcome but we would ask that no food or drink is consumed by young children in the living room.
Plant care involves watering outdoor pots if it is hot and indoor ones if they need it.
