Our Home For Exchange
Description of the home we are offering for exchange
The Retreat is a new build sunny and light house in beautiful Salcombe one of the most prestigious holiday and sailing destinations in England. We are a short walk from stunning beaches and the pretty town and harbour.
We have 2 upstairs and 2 downstairs bedrooms each with en-suite. New very well equipped kitchen/dining room with all the usual white goods and laundry with washing machine. Dining room has bi-fold doors opening onto private courtyard and sitting room has doors opening onto sunny front garden with comfortable outdoor seating and dining table. Parking for several cars.
Situated in a sunny spot at the top of town with a 15 minute walk to a beach or 10 minutes down into town. Outdoor swimming pool a two minute walk.
We are 80 minutes from our regional airport at Exeter and just over 2 hours to Bristol Airport. The ferry crossing from Plymouth (1 hour's drive) connects to Roscoff in France.

Description of our neighbourhood and surrounding area
Tucked away on the South Coast of Devon is Salcombe. A beautiful seaside town and top destination renowned for it’s picturesque harbour and estuary, beaches and stunning coastlines situated in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Holiday homes for the rich and famous are the norm here. Salcombe is famous for its pastel coloured cottages set on a hill. Lining the beach is a vibrant harbour-side town packed with independent shops, restaurants and bars. The well known clothing companies of Crew, Jack Wills and QUBA started here. We have a supermarket in town but also many independent shops including a delicious bakery, Salcombe ice cream, fudge and sweet shops, grocers and delicatessens. Pick up a lobster or crab from the fishermen on Island Street or Victoria Quay. We have a small fleet of fishing boats bringing in these treats as well as scallops in season. We are lucky to experience balmy summers and mild winters.
Our house is in a sunny spot at the top of town with a 15 minute walk to a beach or 10 minutes down into town. There is a frequent bus service up the hill in the summer season and parking in town.

Our home exchange - places to go and things to do while staying in our home
There are small ferries to take you to South Sands beach or across the estuary to the stunning beaches at Mill Bay or Sunny Cove and a lovely walk to Gara Rock along the coastal path. You can hire a sailing or motor boat in town or there are trip boats along the estuary or linking us to Kingsbridge the nearest town at the head of the estuary.
Salcombe is vibrant and busy during July and August with a Town and a Yacht Club Regatta. There is a CrabFest in May and much else throughout the year. Its a year round destination with much to recommend the quieter months. Our population expands from 1,800 in winter to nearly 20,000 in the summer months!
Salcombe has a lot of history. Once famous for boat building and a base and leaving point for American troops destined for the Normandy beaches in World War 2. This is the 150th year since the first lifeboat was stationed here and we now have 2 lifeboats and a volunteer crew. You can learn all about our history in the town museum and the lifeboat museum in town.
Further afield is the Dartmoor National Park, the town of Dartmouth and the city of Plymouth.
