Our Home For Exchange

Description of the home we are offering for exchange

Our home used to be farm barns built over 200 years ago, using the honey-coloured cotswold stone from local quarries which are still functioning and part of the nearby landscape. The main house where you would be staying, used to be a barn which we converted during the 90's. It has exposed elm/oak beams in every room, an inglenook fireplace in the sitting room, stone mullion windows and some of the interior walls are also bare stone. It has oodles of character and as we were personally involved in the conversion and decoration of every room, it has been lovingly done. We hope you will be very comfortable here and find the house exciting. We have underfloor heating on the ground floor for the winter. The bedrooms
have high ceilings so you can enjoy looking up at the beams. It will feel as if you are in an old house - every door is different, having been either made by us or sourced from reclamation yards. So were the baths and basins, so dont expect sparkling new but you can expect clean! Upstairs, 3 bedrooms share a bathroom, downstairs 2 rooms share a bathroom. Both have showers in the bath. It is not designed for a wheelchair but we have a Heath Robinson solution if you need to shower without getting into a bath! There is an extra loo downstairs. We have an organic garden with a lawn, flowerbeds, fruit and vegetable patch and a separate 'wildlife field' with hazel tree chairs overlooking the valley from where we hear and see roe deer, owls, woodpeckers etc
Although we have beds for 7 people, the sitting room is long and thin so can seat 5 people for watching TV and 2 occupied at the piano or table at the other end. Dining in the kitchen is OK for 4-6 people but frankly cramped for 7. Although children are welcome, we have passed the time of having small children around so the house is no longer child-proof. It would be best to discuss this with us if you plan to bring children. We have wifi in the house. Mobile signal is patchy but it can always be received on the bench outside the house or in the village pub or a short walk away. You are welcome to use our landline for emergencies. If you would like to use the bicycles please discuss this with us in advance so we can check them over!

During COVID we may be able to vacate your building 72 hours before you arrive - please ask.

Neighbourhood

Description of our neighbourhood and surrounding area

Situated in a tiny village in the stunning Cotswold countryside, we are in an AONB (Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty) and Conservation Area. Famous for its limestone villages and historic towns, the Cotswolds are perfect for mixing sightseeing, country pursuits and relaxing. Surrounded by beautiful rolling hills it is the ideal location for keen walkers and cyclists (you can even hire electric bikes locally if you want to go further afield or have help up those hills).

Bourton-on-the-Water (15 mins - see photo) , Lower Slaughter (18 mins - see photo), Broadway (17 mins) and Stow-on-the-Wold (12 mins) are some of the prettiest villages in the area.

With the river Windrush winding through many of our local beauty spots, there are countless places to explore by car, on foot or bicycle.

Our historic village pub has delicious food and a spacious garden - just one of many others close by!
Walk or cycle to a village café. Visit the impressive ruins of Hailes Abbey (dissolved in 1539 by Henry VIII) then drop in to the farmshop next door to order lunch or a coffee while you buy your provisions.

Our Preferences

Our home exchange - here are our Preferences and House Rules

We are not interested in visiting the US, Canada, Australia, New Zealand.
We would love to find our house clean and tidy when we come back. There may be a chargeable cleaning services possible but that would depend on dates. We would be grateful if you could only hang wet towels/clothes in the designated drying places not on the back of wooden furniture (to prevent damage and staining)!
