Built in the 1950s by a workers' collective and renovated to provide modern and comfortable space. Spread over 3 floors with superb views over London. Well equipped kitchen diner and large garden with decking and patio to rear with plenty of garden furniture and outdoor games. Close (five minute walk) to restaurants, bars and historic open spaces of Crystal Palace. Train stations with services direct to Victoria, London Bridge and London Overground services to East London are a five to ten minute walk away. St Pancras (for trains to Europe) is approx 60 minutes by train via Victoria station. Easy drive out to the countryside of Kent, Surrey and Sussex. Neighbourhood

Description of our neighbourhood and surrounding area

Crystal Palace has a great feel of a village within a city and was named The Best Place to Live in London 2022 by The Sunday Times. There are many independent restaurants, cafes and bars just a short five minute walk from our home. There are also plenty of grocery stores and a supermarket. The area is well known for antique shops and markets. Transport links into the centre of London are great, with direct trains to London Victoria, London Bridge, East London and buses into London's West End. This is the highest point in London south of the Thames and so attracts many cyclists looking for a climb. There are great views over London. Our home is a five minute walk to one of London's historic Grade 2 listed parks which a great place for a stroll. The park was home to the Victorian Crystal Palace that was destroyed by fire in the 1936 and whose foundations and statues are still an integral part of the park. There are Victorian statues of dinosaurs (that children still love!) and the iconic National Sports Centre. A friendly, vibrant and historic part of South London.

Attractions

Our home exchange - places to go and things to do while staying in our home

Our house is 20- 25 mins by train to central London with its many cultural and historic attractions. It is approximately 25 minutes by train to Stratford Olympic Park and the culture of the East End of London. Crystal Palace itself is historic and the foundations and statues of the Crystal Palace are a 5 minute walk away - we love walking in the park with the kids. Crystal Palace is a great place to browse for antiques and vintage goods as well as looking in the independent shops and the farmers market on Saturdays. Sports enthusiasts are well catered for as the National Sports Centre is a ten minute walk away with a beautiful swimming pool. There are local museums - the family favourite is the Horniman which has interesting exhibitions and a small aquarium. Dulwich art gallery is a mile away in Dulwich village. Sydenham Woods are nearby and great for a walk. When the weather is sunny, an hour's drive will get you to the Kent or Sussex coast.
