Description of our neighbourhood and surrounding area

We are looking for short breaks in the UK, Wales for 2019/2020 (weekends) and XMAS period 2019. Up to 10 days from 21/12/2019 to 02/01/2020 in Finland, Norway, Sweden, Iceland, Whitby or Northern Scotland.

Our home is in a cul-de-sac. It sits in a secluded garden surrounded by trees. In the summer the field next door has cows grazing and they like to look over the dry stone wall at us on occasion. Our neighbours are of the older generation so it is fairly quiet. It is a 5 minute walk to the nearest large supermarket and 10 minutes to a busy market town with all amenities.

Our home exchange - places to go and things to do while staying in our home

There are also several Doctors surgeries and dentists. For the children a park with a play area, band stand and a leisure centre with swimming pool. We are willing to share our car as local transport is not impossible but a little more difficult. Leek is in the Staffordshire Moorlands and 20 mins drive brings you to the best walking country you will experience anywhere, Derbyshire and the Peak District. Chatsworth House is an amazing stately home. We are about half an hour from Alton Towers, a theme park with the largest roller-coaster, a must for young and old alike. Manchester is 50 minutes drive, 2 train stations are 30 mins away, Macclesfield and Stoke, take the train to London 1 hour 30 minutes from Stoke-On-Trent. Alton Towers amusement park is 30 minutes away.

Staffordshire and Stoke-On-Trent is renowned for its pottery and is known as the Potteries. It is also renowned for its six towns. Visit the Wedgewood Centre (Josiah Wedgewood), Middleport Pottery famous for Burleigh, Emma Bridgewater, MoorCroft and The Gladstone Pottery (owned by Prince Charles and TV show 'The great pottery throwdown' is filmed) museum in Longton and see the bottle kilns whilst learning what a sagger makers bottom knocker's job entailed.

20 minutes drive and you are in the Peak District, Derbyshire with too many walks to mention here.
